Finally had a chance to drive the car on the highway after corrective service for the whistling noise. See the attached picture for the service invoice - the noise isn't completely gone, but I would say 90%. Not noticeable at all if you have music / podcasts on at 70mph or higher (even at low volume). The trunk rattle was a lot more annoying. That turned out to be a loose bolt inside the third row seat. Software update resolved the slow loading screen (for now).

Just got my GLE back from the dealer, they replaced the covers and added some tape (i think) but you can't see it. Haven't had a chance to go on a long highway drive to check it out - but at least wanted to share my dealer was receptive to the fix. Went on a test drive, the tech confirmed it - very straightforward, no discussion.

Mercedes Benz of Boston, for anyone in the area experiencing the issue.

I got my mirror covers replaced under the same Service Bulletin LI88-70-P-071478. This bulletin is circa mid 2020 that asked to retape the housing. When I brought my 4/21 in around later 8/21 for whistling issue they did not attempt taping it but said MB is still working on the fix. When I brought in end of 21 gave them the bulletin and the part numbers other got, 167 811 xx xx. I got a diff part number, 167 810 61 05. Seem older. They ordered, painted and replaced both left and right. Good news whistling is gone. Drove twice this week at 70+ mph no more whistling sound. However there is now small amount of wind noise, Not sure the old whistling mask the wind noise or its new mirror cover side effect. All good.

I have a 2021 GLE 350 and I also experience the whistling when traveling 70 mph or above. I brought my GLE in and after a couple of days they determined the whistling seems to be coming from the driver's side side view mirror. DS side view mirror assembly was replaced and the whistling was temporary gone for 6 to 8 months and now it's back. I do plan on bringing it back to the MB dealership with the hope of getting this resolved. My opinion the whistling seems to be coming from the bottom of the windshield area

I have used a stethoscope to pinpoint hard-to-locate sounds. I remove the head, and substitute a length of brass tubing to reach where I want to listen.

Too bad it returned.

Yes, There is an actual fix. The 1st time I've taken my 2021 GLE to the dealership believes it was originating from the driver's side view mirror so that was replaced and the whistling stop but returned a week later. The fixed is replacing the windshield. No more whistling!

My 2020 didn't do it, my 2021 did it bad and my current 2023 doesn't do it.. Surely this was fixed by model year 2023 no?

unfortunately I am hearing it, maybe it’s a different issue rather than the side mirror.

I didn't notice anything on higher speeds, but heard the story from one owner that had a whistling noise generated by driver's mirror.
Not because of the noise, he replaced mirror exterior parts with aftermarket real carbon fiber one (slightly different design) and as side-effect the noise disappeared.

That being said the MB engineers should be embarrassed about this design failure. How did they not hear this noise during test drives and wind tunnel testing?
hi there just wanted to ask you if the fix still works for you car? I just picked up the 2023 GLE 53 last month and I notice the whistling sound when I start driving pass 60 mph. I just bought myself the same O ring as you but still waiting for the delivery.

thanks in advance!

Brought my 2023 AMG GLE 53 to the dealer. They found the issue. Turns out the windshield and the roof was too far apart. They had to remove the windshield and reseal it so it back to manufacture specs. Now I am waiting to hear from them about the hard downshift.

Whistling Noise

Just happened to notice that the whistling sound from driver’s side view mirror is still an issue being addressed on this forum. I have the whistling noise on my 2021 GLE 350, had it from day one. I was hesitant to have my dealer play around with it, perhaps have to paint the mirror cover, because most likely they would screw it up. There is such a shortage of technicians at my dealer I am leery that the one guy I may get just finished his shift at Walmart. Brought my other car in for an oil change and it took 3 days to complete due to personnel shortages.
I am actually shocked that this problem still exists. How many years does it take MB engineering to rectify this rather simple, however, rather annoying problem? I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy a rather trouble free experience with all 6 of my MBs. This lack of intervention on behalf of MB is something that I find troubling, it reflects bigger issues coming down the pipeline.

I have a 2021 GLE 450. About 6 months ago, the car developed a wind noise above 60MPH from the front windshield--upper aspect of the middle and passenger side area. Anyone with the same? I took it in and they replaced both side mirror covers which made no difference. Has anyone had this or know of a solution? Thank you!!

I am a C-class owner (same side mirrors as GLE) and we have the same problem. The internet is full of complaints about wind noise in the C-class W205 as well. I have tried almost everything so far and the problem has not been fixed yet...
- edge sealing
- O-ring insulation
- stick the bumps to change the aerodynamics

Incredibly, I recently drove a 2012 Skoda Rapid as a replacement vehicle and it was quieter than our MBs and no wind noise.

I didn't order the acoustic comfort package but I didn't think I would hear so much noise outside the window on a $70,000+ car.
Hi,
2023 CLA 250 whistles from drivers side as well. Was in the shop for a week. They replaced the door seal. Not the problem. I took it back to service and they said there was nothing else they could do.
Highway driving above 60MPH I roll the window down and can hear a loud whistling. Ruins the ride of a $40k vehicle. Ready to trade it in.

There is a thread from 2020-21 about the driver side mirror wind noise. There was a design chang at some point that seemed to solve it. As I recall some mirrors were replaced and some owners used an O ring around the mirror. On a few cars the windshield seal was bad.
Do a search…threads are a few years old but include a lot of good info.

Yes there was also a manufacturer communication issued on the NHTSA regarding the side mirror noise. I'll see if I can find a link.

Angry 2020 GLE 350 Mirror Whistle

Lonestar Mercedes Calgary says the repair by Mercedes for this Mirror Whistling issue is a new "Mirror Cap" which is only covered by Mercedes in the first 10,000km.

I recently took mine into the dealer for the same issue, of course that day it wouldn't do the damn whistle!
They talked about another potential issue that could cause the whistling. If I understood correctly, it's a gap somewhere around the door seal, that they can silicone up. But to do that, they'd first have to verify the noise, slap some tape over the gap, verify the noise is gone, and then do the silicone fix.
So waiting for a day where I have time and the whistling is occurring...

Thanks for your input. The first dealer I went to did that I, but wasn't the problem. They wound up replacing foam seal around window and said problem fixed.
Nope. I got it up on the highway hit 60 and it whistled all the way to and from work everyday. Drove me crazy!
Made service apt at another dealer. It took a week for that MB dealer to figure it out. Problem: Driver side Wing Mirror Cap
Dealer ordered new one and she is whistle free! I hope they can resolve your issue as well. Good luck!
