2020 GLE 350
2024 GLE 350 Loaner

My GLE 350 went in for service and the loaner was a 2024 GLE 350. Other than the MBUX system, the differences are subtle. Wireless AirPlay is nice as is full screen AirPlay. But the biggest difference to me is with the standard Burmeister system. Wow - it really blows the 2020 standard Burmeister system away. The sound is full and the low end is so much better. Night and day.

Curious as to what they changed. Wouldn't have expected changes with the speakers. Maybe just software updates? I like my 2021 system but that's only because I added the Cerwin Vega spare tire sub

No sure. Seems like it has to be a speaker update with the amount of bass that it pumped out. The difference between the 2024 and my 2020 system is real.

I'm intrigued as to what the changes were. Did you notice more base coming from the rear? Was it louder?
If so, it is possible they added a rear sub to balance the front-heavy bottom end. This being the case, they probably changed amps as well. Certainly tweaked the crossovers and software parameters to account for the acoustics. I'm pretty sure there's a hidden engineer menu for the sound system where changes can be made. Had it in my previous W204 and Volvo S60.

I am extremely disappointed with the standard Burmester system on the pre-facelift models. The Harman Kardon Logic 7 system equipped on the W166 absolutely blows it away. Boy do I miss it

The bass was coming from the front. Was louder too. I was pushing the limits to test it out because the Burmeister in my 2020 is so bad. At higher volumes it was still clear. My 18 year old son who listens to EDM and house music noticed it right away too.

Maybe they removed the limiter which is in place so that the speakers don't blow. This attenuation is meant to limit distortion but it's too intrusive.

How about drivability e.g. better start-stop transition due to the electric motor, etc.?

The drive seems a little smoother but that can be due to the fact that my car has 50,000 miles on it. The start/stop was very smooth. I usually turn it off on my car but I didn't even notice it in the 2024. Handling seemed about the same.

Personally I wouldn't upgrade from the 2020 to the 2024 for the upgrades that it had. Really the MBUX is better and the sound system is a lot better. Everything else is a minor upgrade.

As it should be. Better off waiting for the next generation.

i was thinking about ordering a 2023 GLE with the upgraded Burmeister system, but they (MBUSA) took it off the options builder for some reason after a few months. It did exist at some point, not sure why it was removed.

So I am patiently waiting for a 2024 E Series because I am pretty sure they will get something better than the "Burmeister Surround" system which like people are mentioning here is inadequate when you look at the power (something like 6000watts) compared to some of the competitors like the Bowers and Wilkins in the Volvos for ex which have over 1200

Didn't they add the Dolby Atoms or something to the standard Burmeister?

I got a loaner yesterday and the dealership gave me a weird 2022 GLE 450. It's Emerald Green with the most expensive leather seats (black), no AMG line, no massaging seats, and no ventilated seats. and it has the driver's assistance package. Has a little over 4K miles on it but it is pretty nice. I was hoping to get a 2024 GLE (any model) to see the comparison to mine to see if it's worth upgrading or not.

Yes they added the Dolby Atmos. I can’t wait to get my GLE 53.

Just a quick update. I returned the loaner car and picked up my 2020 today. Somebody on here said above that it might be software related. That could be true since Apple Music through CarPlay (by wire from the same phone and on the same song) sounded totally different. That has to be a processing issue. I was talking to the young guy who brought my car up. He said that that the sound system was the one thing he noticed right away on the 2024s. I was playing around with the system in my car to try to tweak the settings and it just doesn't sound as good. Kind of reminded me of what Christopher from the Sopranos said the night he died, "This system's got no *****". Not the worse thing to have as an issue, but still is annoying.

On the plus side, I think the surround camera in the 2020 is better than the 2024. Seems clearer. The 2024 has the rotating 3D and more angles and the camera showing the wheels to the curb changed so that now you can get a different view to see really how close you are from destroying your wheel. But the 2020 camera actually seems more functional IMO.

Anybody getting a 2024 that cares about wireless CarPlay will be thrilled. I only connected my phone once by wire and it recognized it every time I got in after that wirelessly. No lag at all and its quick.

I'll make sure to avoid a 2024 GLE loaner so that I'll never experience the improved sound system and won't know any better. 😜

Interesting take on the 360 cams. Good to know we're not missing much. The invisible hood feature would be cool to have though.

I use a wireless dongle for Android Auto that works flawlessly. I think these single dedicated ones work better than the dual platform ones where they need built in software to negotiate between AA and Carplay.

Lol. I know it sounds crazy and silly, but I kind of wish I didn't get the 2024 loaner. Reading what I just wrote even makes me roll my own eyes. lol

As for the cameras, I am sure that some of the new features are great, but on a day to day practical level, it didn't seem like a huge upgrade.

I just ordered the wireless adapter from your link.

I too use a wireless carplay adapter. Pretty much solves my only issue on my 2020 450. Which dealer do you go to? The only loaners I get are GLAs and GLBs. lol

I own the 2024 gle 350 and the drive feels way better than previous generations. I had a 2023 gle 350 loaner and couldn’t wait to get my car back. It feels a lot smoother probably because of the 48V battery.

Please keep others posted if it works well since I have the android auto version. If it doesn't work well, at least Amazon has an easy return process.
