2020 GLE450 “Off road unavailable”

2020 GLE450 has an off road package, ie air and Hydraulics. It was bouncing fine about 6 months ago and today on the beach it would not do it. Screen is showing “off road assistance unavailable”. Maybe I was doing wrong then last time (6 months ago) but vehicle was in “drive” mode, “off road” dynamics and my foot was on brake pedal. No malfunction messages as well. Please help to make my baby bounce again. Thank you!

It wouldn’t stuck on any surface (wet, dry, soft deep sand). Just kept going in any dynamic mode. Last time i made it bounce but for some reason this time it wouldn’t do it.

See https://www.mbusa.com/en/owners/manu...ff-road-assist , there are a few requirements:

Setting Off-road Assist

Requirements:

  •
    • the vehicle is stationary
  •
    • the vehicle is set to off-road level 1 or 2
  •
    • the Off-road or Off-road Plus (only vehicles with Off-road package) drive program has been selected
  •
    • the ignition is switched on
  •
    • all doors and the hood are closed
  •
    • the transmission is not engaged in position P
  •
    • there is no trailer coupled
  •
    • the vehicle is outdoors
  •
    • the detected lateral inclination of the vehicle must not exceed approx. 15°
  •
    • the system is within its operating temperature
  •
    • the on-board voltage is sufficiently high

Also this, but it's less relevant if you never were able to start Recovery mode:

Recovery mode is automatically deactivated in the following situations:

  •
    • you are actually traveling faster than 9 mph(15 km/h)
  •
    • after a running time of 30 seconds
  •
    • it is detected that an object has hit the underbody of the vehicle hard
  •
    • not all conditions are met

I looked again and noticed that in dynamics “off road “ shows everything in off road mode, except steering in comfort and ESP is in off road+ (never saw off road + in the past). Please see attached photos. Thank you!

Thank you for the message. I don’t know what is recovery mode is and never saw it on the dash. I used to drive in the city with the kids and on red light was making my car bounce to make my kids laugh. Nothing hit vehicle underneath (may be car detected sand after wheels span fast). Even today after I washed it including undercarriage vehicle wouldn’t go in bounce mode. It raises but would not jump. Thank you!

They renamed bouncy mode to "Recovery Mode" in later vehicles. Were you in park?

I've been thinking of taking mine on the beach but the sand is super soft and deep here and I don't have the cool bounce mode like you do.

Off road still not working and navigation started showing vehicles location in Germany alone with tons of “not working” dash messages. Took it to the dealership and after several times MBUX update failure they replaced MBUX. Now everything is working, CPO covered the repair. Thank you all for your help!
