2024 GLE 53 AMG Coupe Driver Assistance Package Not Detecting Hands on Steering Wheel

So i've had my 2024 GLE 53 AMG Coupe for about 13 months now and I had brought it in twice because when using the driver's assistance package, the steering wheel would not detect my hands on the steering wheel. The first time they did some software updates which the dealership said fixed the issue. Then when driving it home that day the problem was still there. Then this second time they had replaced a control module in the steering wheel, but when driving home again it still had the same issue. Has anyone else had this issue when using the driver's assistance package? I have the Carbon Fiber/Microfiber steering wheel.

The first time they checked out the issue, they gave me a GLS 580 with DAP and when I used it, the steering wheel was able to detect my hands the entire ride (and every time I used it). I know the GLS steering wheel is different from mine (all leather in the GLS 580 vs Microfiber/Carbon Fiber on mine). I could not compare it with the loaner I had because it ws a 2025 GLE 450 Coupe without DAP.

Have they added capacitive sensors on steering wheels now?

My '21 doesn't sense "touch," and requires physical movement from my hand.

If there are touch sensors (usually capacitive), do all styles of steering wheel have them?

I have a 2018 S450 and a 2020 GLE450. I believe both of mine require movement as well.
The steering wheels do not appear to be capacitive except for the little black square control buttons.
I think my driving movements on the highway are too subtle for the system to detect. It thinks I'm not there and alerts.
I give a little jerk to the wheel and it goes away.

Kinda odd for me too.

On my 2021 E63 with all leather steering wheel, I barely have to hold or touch the wheel at the 5 o'clock position to keep the system happy. It seems like it's capacitive sensing. Hands off, it can go like a minute without nagging for input or touch.

On my 2024 GLE63 with leather/alcantara sheering wheel, I have to really grip the wheel at the 5 position or put in some force to jiggle the wheel to keep it happy, but it will accept just light touch at 10 and 2. It also won't go 15 seconds hands off before nagging for attention.

I've tried both keeping my hand(s) gripped to the steering wheel and also moving the steering wheel slightly and the issue persists. The dealership ordered a new steering wheel which is backordered, but whenever it comes in hopefully they can install it and it fixes the issue.

2021 c300 Cab. Arrived 7/28/21 . 24 GLE 450e.
When the cruise is on, occasionally both my MB the steering wheel pops up and I have to move my hands. It’s a common issue.

It's a Fed requirement that you touch/grasp the wheel, because it's not full self driving, once a minute or so. If you don't, the car will eventually slow to a stop.

No manufacturer has received FSD on all roads, but MB is the first to receive certification in selected areas.

I understand this but, I always have my hands on the wheel.

So, unless you have capacitive touch, you need to impart some action to let the car know you are in charge.

It's a balance.
If you give it too much "action," it takes a second or two for the car to regain control. Figuratively speaking.

The car will "give up" if it thinks you've taken charge.
I have found a balance where I just lightly rest my hand on the wheel, kind of "feeling" its steering actions but not directing it. It usually works, even in bends and tighter corners, but I still have to nudge it occasionally.

I always also have my hands on the wheel, except for a few seconds if I am trying to open my water bottle. When I had a 2024 (or 2025) GLS 580 as a loaner I used the DAP and I did not have to move my hand at all. I kept it in the same position for most of the ride and the hand detection notification did not come up at all.

Something I noticed is that the same hand animation is shown not only for hand detection, but also if the system looses sight of the lane markers. Initially I just thought it was being finicky about detecting hands but then I noticed that it would flash the notification in the same place (larger intersection with poor lane markers) repeatedly.
