Check engine light - NOT loose gas cap
2018 GLE 350. Nine months old.
The third time I refueled this car, the check engine light came on. Knowing a loose gas cap could be the culprit, I rescrewed the cap numerous times and the light wouldn’t go off. I brought it into the dealer and they confirmed that the gas cap wasn’t loose, but diagnostics showed no other problem either. Their answer was that whenever that happens, just drive around for a few days and the light will go off. They’re right, it does, but I can’t believe that’s the best answer for this. In the nine months I’ve owned this car, it has happened five times. I’ve refueled more than that, sonit doesn’t happen every time. But, it’s not like I sometimes suddenly forget how to screw on my gas cap.
Anyone else ever have this issue?
I must admit that I don’t love this car. And if I still own it at the end of its warranty, it’ll be a miracle.
Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem, except my 2018 GLE 43 is only six months old. Got the gas cap loose alert, yet the gas cap was tight. Then got a check engine light after a couple of ignition cycles. I called the MB 800 number, thinking the code could be retrieved remotely ... but no. That capability is in the future. The phone rep said so long as the check engine light is amber-colored, drive for 50-60 miles and the code should clear itself. But if the check engine light turns red, take it to the dealer ASAP! The rep was suspiciously quick with the answer, leading me to think it's a known glitch,
For now, the light is still amber.

There is not a red check engine light.
The fuel caps are an issue on the GLE, they seem to not stay tight at times, we often replace them just to rule that out if a customer has this issue. But we have had cases of canister closing valves leaking causing the warning. Your dealer has steps to take to diagnose if they want to go further, it's not an uncommon issue, there are cases about it and lots of info on what to look for.

First, it's a new car. 2nd, they're rolling computers. If any sensor picks up something out of it's programmed range, the light comes on and it throws a code. Once it is back in range, the light goes off. The code stays and can be read by the service dept. Sounds like the OP is planning on keeping this vehicle for a while. When you do take it in, even if they say no trouble found or unable to replicate the issue, make sure they still document it and you get each and every instance in writing. This will go a long way once you're out of warranty and the true cause is found.

They once replaced the gas cap on my GLS because the check engine light came on. Apparently the computer alerted a gas leak but there was no leak, so they replaced the gas cap. Haven't the issue again since.

I might have been one of the lucky ones, but I've never had this issue with my '18 GLE 350 since I bought it brand new over a year ago. I fill up about once a week and usually turn the gas cap a further 180 degrees after the first initial click.

Otherwise P0456 or P0442 error codes will appear

Yes had this same issue on my 2017. I would twist the gas cap and the issue would go away after a day or two, but always return. Turns out the gas cap wasn't getting tight, despite the 'clicking'. I bought a replacement at Autozone, and problem resolved (way cheaper than MB gas cap, thought it does not have the tether on it)

I got a flashing fuel light on the cluster with a half tank of gas. I got a P04427A on my iCarsoft MB II scanner the other day for A "fine leak in the evaporative emission control system was detected. Leakage or a defective seal was detected." rechecked fuel cap and reset DTC code. I order a new fuel cap just in case if the code come back. If the fuel cap does not resolved it then I will replace the purge valve next.
