GLE63S Coupe - Winter Driving

Hello,
I live in a city where 3 to 4 months of winter with varying degree of snowfall is normal. I enjoyed reading everything about the GLE63S Coupe and went to visit Benz dealer/sales guy he advised me against buying GLE63S Coupe he said even with the proper winter tires this vehicle is not designed for winter driving conditions!! Because the GLE63S produces too much power in the rear wheels and I will spin out in a curve. I am not a racer, just wanted to buy an AMG for day-to-day city driving and few long road trips.
His advice was if I had a spare space in the garage then you will love this car during non-winter months. I am not at all conceived by his advice. He recommends that I buy the AMG GLE 43 as it drives better in winter and costs 30-40K lesser than GLE63S.
Please tell me about winter driving experience with GLE63S Coupe and should I buy the GLE63S for all around the year driving (winter, summer, Rain). Thank you

Get the one you want. His comment of "too much power in the rear wheels" is moot as your right foot controls that. The gas pedal in the GLE 63 isn't a hair triggers IMO. If you routinely drive in snow you will have to invest in winter tires whether you buy a 43 or 63. Since the GLE63 coupe has staggered tires I would not put a 315/40/21 winter tire on back and get 275/45/21 all around.

Thank you. I came back home the other day disappointment, I knew he was not making sense.

You are absolutely correct, winters are a must. I have Nokian non-studded winter tires for my other vehicles, the X5 has staggered summer tires and for winter ALL wheels/tires are of the same size.

For new vehicles I usually buy wheels and winter tires from local tire shop, they also swap the wheels right before winter and store them. The dealer pricing for winter wheels&Tires is high

Hope you can help me with this. Does the below Nokian tire size work for the 63
https://www.nokiantires.com/winter-t...liitta-r3-suv/
275/45R21 110T XL up to 118 mph, max load 2340 lb

Or should I buy Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires.

FYI - The GLE63 has a snow mode (don't know what it does) and the AirMatic can be raised.

Yeah that sounds like a wired advice. Maybe he has more 43 allocations that he wants to move? You would think if he had both he’d be more inclined to push the
63.

I live in northern Minnesota and we’re one of the snowiest places in the US. If you have snow tires, I can’t see why you can’t drive the 63. I would absolutely go to a smaller width tire, and even recommend going to 20” diameter with a dedicated snow wheel set. That’s what I’ll be doing later this year. And yes there is a snow mode for the car.

The Nokians have good reputation and so do the Scorpions. I’d go to a tire shop to ensure the right fitment.

Did anyone use the PIRELLI SCORPIO WINTER/SNOW TIRES on a GLE 63 S?

I have them (Scorpion's) on my GLEs AMG63....they would not be my first choice....they came with my vehicle.

My choice would be what I had on my ML63 and all my other cars...Nokian Hakk SUV8 studded

dedicated snows and 4matic, you will be fine. Just remember, just cause you can accelerate quick doesn't mean you will stop quickly... I used to watch all the 4wd's in the snowbanks at the beginning of every winter season

Studded tires are the way to go if your laws allow..also the type of tire performance changes with temp and road conditions (ice/snow)..that said the Scorpion is a great tire just not my first choice..you will do fine with them..
