Question 2018 GLE63S Coupe Winter Wheel & Tire Guidance

Fellow Enthusiasts,

I Purchased a 2018 CPO GLE63S Coupe a couple months ago. On Christmas we had our first snow and the car handled horribly. Obviously due to the 22" summer performance tires. I need to get winter tires & wheels but cannot figure out what size. I have searched this forum and all over the internet but found no answers. I also called 2 MB dealerships, Tire Rack and a custom wheel shop Tire Rack referred me to, still no answers. If you currently own or have previously owned a 2018 GLE63S and had winter tires & wheels, please let me know the details (wheel brand/dimensions & tire brand/size).

My current factory setup is staggered 285/40ZR22 Front and 325/35ZR22 Rear. I would like to go to a square setup for the winter with 20" wheels if possible. I have had Blizzak's on many cars over the years and love the way they handle the Michigan winters. Blizzak makes a 275/50R20 that i would like to use. I am told they can be used on 20" wheels with a width from 7.5" to 9.5". Does anyone know if these will clear the brake calipers and what offset is needed front & rear?

For reference the spare tires is a 195/65R20 so I believe 20" wheels will clear but cannot verify unless i buy one and test fit it.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you & Happy Holidays!

Josh

hey!

I am running ROHANA FORGED RFX11 Wheels 20x9F and 20x11 R with BLIZZACK WINTER tires (275/50/20 All around)

brakes clearance is not an issue, I am even running a 15mm spacer on the rear for a better stance.

I have three sets of wheels for my GLE Coupe 63S. My 21’s I bought off of eBay for my daily driving and my winter setup. I just bought my 20’s this year from alloywheelsdirect.com.

you can see them here

these are the only approved 20 and 21 inch wheels from Mercedes for the 2017 GLE 63S Coupe document I have from Germany. MBUSa put out a winter wheel guide the last couple of years that shows only the 21” being the winter wheel setup, but Germany says the 20” is also approved.

https://www.mbusatirecenter.com/cont...ll%20Sheet.pdf

I have the original document from Germany if you want to see it.

I took this photo just today on my 21” wheel.

Snow

I used this Pirelli Scorpion Winter tire now for two years. Last year was through deep snow. not one single issue.

Thank you RaceTank! I have a few questions...

What year is your GLE63S? Do you happen to know the offest for the front and rear 20" wheels? You mentioned your front wheels are 20" x 9" and your rear wheels are 20" X 11", do the 275/50R20 Blizzak's look stretched on the rear wheels being 11" wide? Tire Rack told me the 275/50R20 Blizzaks were meant for a rim width of 7.5" to 9.5". In your opinion could you use the front setup you have on all four corners?

What are the 15mm spacers doing for you? Pushing the wheels farther away from the cars centerline to fill the wheel wells?

Thank you for your time! Greatly appreciated!

Thank you for the info Twilighthan! I have a few questions...

What year is your GLE63S? Would you please provide the exact details of the 20" wheels you are using (offset, manufacturer, part number if available). I checked out your instagram and the alloywheelsdirect site! You are really driving the $*#t out of that thing, nice work man! If you wouldn't mind, please send the original document that shows 20" wheels for a GLE63S from Germany. I am glad to hear you are happy with the Pirelli Scorpion Winter Tires, I only have experience with the Blizzak and am nervous about anything else.

Thank you very much for your time! Greatly appreciated!

2018 !

The offset on the front are 20x9 ET 25, and the rear i believe is ET 35. The Rears do not looked stretched. I had the same concern. I will attach a photo. I would stick with the staggered setup, just for looks alone.

And yes I used spacers just to improve the stance visually.

Mine is a 2017.

The offsets are slightly different for the 20" and 21" here

Here is the German PDF that shows all the details.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...4EnyY5zXn32j2N

These are my 20 and 21" setups. They both look to be around the same offset. The 20" I have seems to be a little closer to the brake caliper on the front than I could imagine. Funny thing is the 20" is made in the USA, went to Europe, and came back to my house in the US.

Spacers look cool, but engineering wise, I wouldn't.

a properly engineered HUB CENTRIC spacer is absolutely fine to use. In fact porsche offered them as OE options in the past.

im not talking about a cheap 50$ Ebay spacer kit.

I can agree that if a manufacturer made one for one of their vehicles, no problem.
