PCMCIA works wonderfully
So today I got my PCMCIA adapter that I bought on ebay for $20. Thank to whoever posted a link in another thread. So I took SD card out my camera and copied a few folders with music onto it. Popped it into GLK, and it worked. Ok not a big a deal, it's supposed to work, but a few things to notice:
It took about 1-2 seconds to recognize the card
It recognized name of every folder and subfolder and every song.
It reads russian, so all of my russian folders and songs were in russian and not in gibrish
Switching between songs and folders is instantaneous.
Could not copy songs to HDD from the SD of course, but then I thought why would I? 8 GB SD card costs $40 nowdays (can even get 16 GB, if you want lots of music), which is larger than HDD, loads up in 2 seconds and is much easier to organize on the computer. And my HDD is still empty if I want to rip a CD at some point.
PCMCIA adapter also fits flush so nothing sticks out and it's black.
My only concern is that the SD card I used was SanDisk extreme III, which is for DSLR camera and is made to be very quick, not sure if any other SD card would just as quick. Will have to get something cheap and try it out.
Music quality was pretty good too, could not tell a difference from CD.

I got a CF to PCMCIA adapter for $12 in a local computer store. I was thinking if it doesn't work in GLK, I can still use it for my DSLR to download pictures. Luckily, it works like a charm. Also SanDisk Extra II handles the speed with no problem.

Did you notice a limitation on the number of songs allowed on any media device at a time.
I noticed from the book with MP3's on CD's there was a max of 255 dirs, with 255 files, max 8 levels deep with a total of 500 songs per disk, max.
In the USB (Glove Box connector) i experienced a 1000 songs max. It ignored the other 350 songs on my little Mini SD 8gig USB drive.
On the SD card for the MMI, it did not recognize my 4gig card with over 1000 songs, but my other card with 300 songs was readable.
Anyone else got some clear spec's on these types of media?

Can someone please post the link here? I did a search for PCMCIA in this sub-forum, but could not find it.
I am assuming any such adapter should work, but since some of these may not fit flush I would like to go with what has been proven to work. i.e.- don't want one that sticks out and gets snapped off, taking a chunk of the dash with it and trashing the slot

I have a SanDisk 6 in 1 card that I got online which supports SD, SDHC, MultiMediaCard, SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, Sony Memory Stick and Sony Memory Stick PRO card.
You can order them from redorbit.com for $20.12

I am ordering the one linked to by PDXGLK (thanks again!).
After doing a bit more research, I saw a few advertised on eBay that said they only supported SD cards up to 2 GB. The ones that support SDHC are good for up to 32 GB cards. For more details on different types of SD cards, please see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_...32_GB_capacity
Now I just need to get the mini-SD adapter since that is what my Crackberry supports so I can swap the card in and out of the phone. Or it might just be easier to plug the phone into the Aux jack and keep the SD / PCMCIA adapter as a backup.
Does the stereo handle playlists that are on the SD card?

do you have PCMCIA slot? I think it comes with Multimedia package, so you might not have the it. See the pic above as where it should be.

Not sure if it hadles playlists, but if you make folder as playlist (create folder on the computer and put songs that you like in it) this would be a solution I guess.

GLK350-premium pks,Bi-zenons,NAVI,OEM Hitch, Stepboards etc..
No, you can't.
It comes with Navigation(Multimedia) Option
It meant you would have to choose Navi option when you placed your order for GLK.

As usual Wikipedia knows everything http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playlist
