Thanks for nice info, but I don't think a front center is available on base system.

You might be right, if you add number of speakers, (4 front door, 2 rear door) plus the front center becomes 7 speakers system.
I have the H/K sound system so I can’t confirm there is a front center speaker for standard sound system.
The description for the front center says “Inst pnl speaker W/o premium audio” and they have 2 different price for front center (Premium & Standard).

Does anybody know the stock front and rear speaker sizes for a 2011 GLK without the HK system? Crutchfield says the front woofers can handle 5.25", 6.5", and 6.75". The online Crutchfield rep said I would have to 'drill out the stock rivets' and use a bracket and drill new holes for any replacement speakers.
They do not list the size of the rear speakers. Does anybody know?
I am interested in the Infinity Kappa components, but I'm worried that new tweeters might not fit. Are the GLK tweeters in the A pillar? Does anybody know how big they are? The Kappa tweeter is 1".
Thanks.

Another question: I'm researching sound processors and the JL Cleansweep looks good, except it only takes 4 channels as inputs compared to the Audiocontrol units that take 6 or 8.
If I want to send the FULL signal to the Cleansweep wouldn't I need both tweeters, both front woofers, and both rear woofers wired to it? That's a total of 6 inputs, so the JL wouldn't work.
Or can I skip the tweeters (if they are getting the same signal as the front woofers) or skip the rear speakers (if they are getting the same signal as the front woofers)?
I don't know how the head unit handles the signals to each speaker so I don't know what the right approach is.. thanks.
Edit: after further reading, I see the JL Cleansweep CL-SSI has 3-way summing described as:
"3-Way Mode:
In the 3-Way mode, the CL-SSI will sum
an OEM subwoofer or woofer signal (lowpass filtered) to a mid-bass or midrange signal
(bandpass filtered) and to a high frequency signal
(high-pass filtered), creating a two-channel,
full-range stereo output."
But I'm still not sure if the GLK speaker signals qualify as lowpass filtered, bandpass filtered, and highpass filtered. Help is appreciated.

I just installed the kappa speakers in my GLK and they sound awesome (yes, even with the basic audio 20 system!). It was very easy to do, I spent less than 3 hours fitting all 4 speakers and 2 tweeters with crossovers and everything.
For your information the stock speakers were made of extremely cheap parts : thin black paper cones with very small magnets and a plastic assembly.
To my surprise the rear speakers were NOT 2-ways. Only woofers, that's why they sounded this bad.
I placed the kappa 10.9T tweeters in the A pillars and they were very easy to fit. I just pulled of the plastic support inside the cover and the tweeters fitted right into the black foam underneath the cover.
I used the 60.9cs on the 4 doors (2-ways). Tight bass and crips highs.

Thanks for posting. Hope your ride sounds good! The stock speakers are no bueno.. I've never heard a Harmon Kardon version so I'm not sure about those.
I ended up going with Focal VR 165 components up front and the matching Focal CVX speakers in the rear and a 10" JL W3 in the back, which is built into the quarter panel area. Everything's powered by a JL XD 700/5. And I reluctantly bit the bullet and bought the Audison Bit One to handle the sound processing. It sounds great. I'd recommend all of these products.

I left this install to the hands of professionals. I needed somebody to build the fiberglass box and setup the sound processor, so I bit the bullet and had them install everything. I'm glad I did because everything came out great. I e-mailed them to see if they could send me install pics (I know they have some) but I haven't heard back.
Here is one pic of the JL 10" W3 without the grill installed. The carpet matches very closely but the flash exaggerates the discrepancy.

@mbthom
that looks fantastic.. can you kindly tell me where you got the work done at and how much it cost?
I am looking to do the same and would love to go to the same shop you got it done.
thank you

Hey pcote,
I would like to install the Infinity kappa 60.9CS like you did too. Would you post DIY and pic please? How do you take out the door panel and A pillar to install the speakers?
