Hello GLK

I just picked up a 2012 GLK during Christmas. Ordered Weathertech DigitalFit and a set of winter tires from tirerack.

This is my initial observation.
  • I love Keyless Go
  • I love Auto open/close Tailgate
  • I love the look
  • Pano Roof is great
  • The ride is comfortable
  • Changing tire is a pain without the alignment guide tool
  • towing capacity is too low, would be nice if it is 6000lbs
  • Factory default setup, no well thought-out arrangement for iphone or mp3 device
  • iphone contact list xfer to blackberry xfer to GLK is a joke, I'll just dial from the phone
  • Cruise control can only go up/down 10KM per tick. I want to micro adjust by 2KM. I believed some older benz is 1KM per tick.

Just want to say HI and here is a pic with the Elbrus I05 rims.

Welcome to the community!

On the iPhone contacts download - it's stupid I agree.
But working in technology, I know it moves so fast & with the fragmentation within the mobile OS manufacturers - it's almost a miracle that all the car manufacturers are even looped in to all the changes.

In other words, no standardization means you have to be allies, business partnerships have to be worked out & those take time.

It's a stupid plug & software tweak - I know - to get those contacts loaded straight in.
But that takes time, legal reviews & engineers & R&D on both sides.
& then you have to factor in all the other car companies (with more unit volume) & their electronic platforms talking to Apple.

** Irony is my wife's new iP4S contacts were loaded off her prior Android HTC EVO via bluetooth.
They were sync'd online to her GMAIL phonebook. So it was quite easy to move them over off her old phone.
There is yet to be a direct solution for iPhone/iOS.

Me thinks, it may be just a bad apple....

Your cruise control should have 2 detent(sp?) positions, unless Canada GLK's didn't get the feature...

The USDM GLK's have the first detent @ 1mph. Push it past the first detent to the 2nd detent and it changes by 5 mph...

Glad you like it.
In the US the cruise control has two stops: 1 mph & 5 mph. A gentle nudge hits the first stop for 1 mph. A firm push all the way up or down hits the 5 mph stop. Try it and you may find the lower setting.
We have two Blackberrys. Work perfectly. Don't blame the GLK. Did you get voice control? You can dial by voice without any distraction.
Enjoy!

The cruise control is GREAT! Push the stalk away from you-cruise control off. Pull it toward you-cruise control on/resume. If I put my mind to it, I can drive a long way on backroads with changing speed limits and never touch the pedals.

I just removed the spare tire and put it in the basement. Who want to get hands dirty when you have MB roadside assistance I put a tire repair kit in the trunk just in case.

I suppose. Depends on where you are. We recently drove through country where the nearest M-B dealer was hours away. For a couple days each way even. I for one would not take the chance.
On the other hand, I haven't had an on road tire problem since forever. Knock on burl walnut. I also haven't had skinny sidewall tires either.
Good luck!

Still doing it. After a 9 day trip. Both ways. Turn signal for C.C. & the reverse. While the cruise control is great, the stalk arrangement is terrible. Go figure.

Did that with the loaner I was driving. Exiting the highway, put on the "right turn signal" and the vehicle kept driving when I lifted off the gas. Felt like a fool for I actually hit the cruise control instead, but a quick tap on the brake fixed that. Did slightly panic for a half a second though, before years of driving experience kicked in.
Made a point to teach the wife not to do that when hers gets here, and to reach low for the signal stalk.

Congratulations on your new vehicle! Use it well, just one thing.

Are you thinking that they are going to fix your flat by using your repair kit?

Do you think they are going to tow you to the nearest MB dealer?

Did you need the room?

I can tell you that they are going to be ##SSED when they find out that you removed the spare for what reason?

Fourth post in 7 years? Keep'em comin

If I get a flat, I can use the tire repair kit to patch it and pump it up myself and I can limp to the tire shop for a proper fix.

If the hole is too large or on the side, I'll call MB assistance and ask for flat-bed.

I have zero faith in the tiny factory jack, and we are talking about uneven pavement, probably sub-zero temp etc.

My setup is definitely not for everybody, just for the city dude.

MB assistance is no diff from CAA, all contract out jobs. I have deal with them many many times, they are all nice peoples. Nobody will yell at me without spare. It is gonna flatbed anyway. I would rather have another spare tow hook that the spare tire.

Yeah. That's an issue with Parktronic. Snow/ice covers the sensors and it thinks that you are about to hit something. Just push the off button and ignore. It will work properly again in the spring.
