GLK250 BT USA-20K mile Service

Just completed for about $170 in parts plus $10 at the tire store for a rotation. It took me about 4 to 5 hours total-first time for engine air filter and cabin air filter (which is much more difficult than it should be!! Hate those microscopic metal clips on the sides!)

Brake fluid was same as other vehicles-no real issues. It can be done with the wheels on using a catch can/rubber hose on the bleeder. The fluid was only about a year old (from build date), but it was on the schedule, so it got changed.

Oil/filter (drain from bottom), engine air filter, cabin air filter, refill DEF; change brake fluid, rotate tires, inspections: boots, belt, undercarriage, etc., reset maintenance timer, reset TPMS.

It probably wouldn't take an experienced MB tech as long to complete, but if you add $170 plus 4 hours shop time plus a loaner vehicle, you can see why the dealership charges $700-$800 and up for the B service. (Just an estimate-owners please chime in on the actual cost for the 20K service from the dealership for comparison.)

Thanks for detailing your experiences. Would you happen to have the part #'s and app cost for the consumables used?

I have read (i.e., in other threads) the PN # for the oil filter is Mann HU 7010 @ app $7.99. I am also guessing the MB GLK 250 BT uses 1L of DOT 4 ATE or Pentosin?

It is a tad early yet, as I just got a 14 GLK 250 BT (19 miles) . The local dealer where the car was purchased also tells me the first 10,000 miles service is "on them".

Fuel filter is on a 40K mile interval.

Consumables are about $170. I used MB branded oil filter from ebay at around $15.

We are on a long Road Trip (around America's) and will see when we nearing 10K as to what 'spare time' I have do DEF & Oil Change. Might end up doing it @ a MB dealer (hoping am not in Alaska then! yikes)

Thanks for info and Pic's

Don't worry so much about refilling the DEF at 10K exactly. I've only put in about 2.5 gallons after 10K miles, twice. The tank holds around 7-8 gallons, so assuming that it was full at delivery, you won't be empty for well over 20K miles. Might be worth checking before you start your trip to avoid the $300 DEF refill charge from a dealer if it's not completely full.

A gaggle of MB's
You can specify no DEF refill at the dealer - under "normal" circumstance 10K interval is correct - "low reading" comes on with about 2K reserve based on usage.

**Mike nc** Hi Mike > Thanks for the info - great help.
>I / We are already on the BIG ROAD TRIP!!..its that ~300$ MB dealer charge that was on my mind for DEF; thus was looking for a DIY solution(s). Since we mostly doing long distance highway driving (currently @PEI) on most days I am hoping that the DEF would last till we get to 20K service.

Hoping to be in 'Lower States' by end of Summer........ and before that 20K mile mark
Maybe that time someone would be kind enough to make me a offer and I would sell it! :P It be the shortest time I OWNED a Diesel Car!!!!

Thanks again
Cheers

mike-nc,
How much brake fluid did you use for the flush? And is there a way to tell when old one is out and new one begins, given that ATE blue is no longer available?
I just did my flush and went through 1L, but not sure if that's sufficient. When my dealer did it, they went through 5-6L per the invoice.

It's really hard to tell. I used a little less than 1L. My OEM fluid is pale yellow and the replacement fluid was also pale yellow, only slightly darker. I don't remember the German brand on the can. 5-6L seems excessive to refill all the lines to all the calipers, but I could be wrong.

My 250 is 20k miles after 8 months, I called a local dealer, and service manager said It's better to change brake fluid after 2 years, easy for me to follow his advice since I felt lazy recently Just did oil change and tire rotation yesterday like 10k, and preparing for the cabin/engine air filters now, since I never did them. mike, would you help me with parts number and where your get them? if possible, would you share some details on how you did them? thanks

Cabin air filter-just search on YouTube. It's almost the same as C-class, so it's good reference. FYI, it is very aggravating to get the panel out of the way, once you get the screws out. Don't forget about the metal clips on the front and BACK (here's where you'll start mumbling about the design). Picked the filter up from Pelican, as well.

Hope it helps!

Not sure of the official part #, there was only one on the Pelican site for the cabin. I think MB uses the same cabin filter across many different models, or the look very similar to me.
