I'm about to hit the 40,000 mile mark and would like to change the transmission fluid myself. I've searched and can't find any guides on how to do it. Has anyone here did it themselves?
I've done the tranny fluid change on my wife's old 2010 C300 and on my 2011 C63. Now she has a 2015 GLK350, so I'm hanging out on this forum. I believe the GLK has the same 7 speed auto that both the C300 and my C63 has, so I believe it should be the same procedure. Here's some guides I used. Only caveat is I did not take out the torque converter plug, I was just too afraid I would strip it because it's tiny. So I did the first fluid change at 40,000 miles and will do the next at 70,000 and keep doing it every 30,000 since I only exchange about 6 quarts instead of 9 quarts. I used Shell ATF134, found it at a local Shell distributor for a very reasonable price.
NOTE - The GLK models have two different version of the 7G. Later models have the 7G PLUS (maybe updated for MY13, but find out for sure, I'm not 100% certain), which has different fluid requirements, and the fluids for each type of 7G are NOT interchangeable at all.

Hey, I've got a question is the fluid refilled from the bottom or from the top? I can not for the life of me find it from the top... So I'm guessing it is pumped in from the bottom.?

It's filled from the bottom. Search and you will find some threads about it.
2013 glk 350. I was just quoted by my dealer 700.00$ (maybe 770.00 with tax) for a trans oil change. Yes that's high, but I don't think this oil change is simple, something anyone can do, without a manual, and it needs to be researched before you try it. From what little I know it's quite a procedure, I wouldn't want to even consider it without a lift. I purchased an extended warranty so I'm not even thinking of doing this any more.

The thing is my car was in a front-end accident with the only real damage to the radiator which as been replaced and the car only has 20k miles so I don't really need a change but to add more transmission fluid.
Do you know if there is a way to check to see if and when it is full?

Just go to the links posted in #2 above. You will have to put the car on jack stands, level it out, attach the adapter on the bottom, run the car, get it to the proper temperature, fill it with more fluid until it just runs out. I did it, but I've been working on cars for years and I still had to fabricate some parts to make it work. Probably best to go to your dealer or a good independent shop to do this.

Is there any sign of a leak? Check underneath good before you worry. 20000 isn't much

Read his earlier post, he said he replaced the radiator. When you do that you lose some transmission fluid because of the transmission cooler located in the radiator.
At 20k I purchased trans service kit with 236.15(mb722.9 late 2010)$169.95. 1 722.9 trans bolt kit $7.99 from ID parts then I went to the parts desk at my dealer to get the deeper pan overflow tube converter drain plug. Then I went shopping for a service shop that could describe how they would do it. When I was satisfied they would do it right,I gave them the job. I checked the pan and torque plug afterwards on my lift.I gladly paid them the 300 but it is weird that getting the torque drain plug alerted me of the service bulletin,the 100extra was worth it and the parts guy told me a lot.

I just had this done at a friend's shop on a lift. Replace the filterm and pulled the torque converter plug, let it drain for half and hour because it was a slow steady drain. I was only able the get 6qt of shell 134 in, I thought it would be more. I filled it to up, got the transmission up to 110-113 degree and pull the transmission drain plug and tried the fill it until it just ran out.
One more thing, the car sat on the lift for about 5-6 hours while the motor and transmission mount was changed and the temp outside was in the 40s, I am guessing not much drained out because of this. We did verify that transmission temp was proper when we pull the plug and let some fluid drain out until it was just dripping and then plugged it up. on the drive home it was smooth and shifted smooth.

From what I've heard it's not easy on a 2013 Glk 350, I don't think there is even a dipstick. My dealer in Chicago wanted $ 700 US. I gagged.

What did you end up doing? I had it done at a dealership in Des Moines and it cost about $600. Now it's already time to have it done again. I'm not looking forward to shelling out another 600 bucks US.
The 2013 Glk doesn't recommend trans oil service till 70000. I have about 40,000 so I didn't do it for 700$. What is your transmission recommended change in miles? Is it sealed up like the 2013? With no dipstick?

The recommended change interval for mine is 40K miles. :-( And yes, it's also sealed.

I have seen that some of the sealed units have a cap that can be removed and a dipstick fitted, kits are sold to do this. I dont know if earlier Glk have the filler tube capped but it would help if you could fill and check it from the top of the engine compartment. I think for the 2013 you don't even have that provision.

Same here (2013 GLK250). Does MB do that so the tranny is out of warranty when it's time?
I did a tranny service on my '05 Jag XJ8L; sealed, had to do the same thing (level it out), drain, replace pan/filter, fill it, start it, lie under the running car and wait until the temp was high enough, then top off fluid until it leaked out of the filler plug. It was NOT a fun process and was hoping the GLK wouldn't be as much of a pain. If it was easier, I'd do it more often..... Glad I have 25k before I have to do it. Gives me time to figure out how to do it, or save up the $$.....
Here's a good reason to check it and do a complete service.
The oil pan alone cost us $125. I had to fight to get them to pick it up under warranty because they said" the transmission is supposed to be inspected but not serviced until 70k miles."
I got a tech out from the back and he said the tranny could leak and the transmission could suddenly fail, a dangerous proposition esp. if you're doing 65 or out late.
We wash this car religiously. I have ramps. It's electrolytic corrosion and salt. BTW the fluid is $30/per US so you want to bring the Shell 134 Blue!
