2015 GLK 250 ammonia smell from exhaust
My 2015 GLK has 160k and suddenly started having a very strong ammonia smell. I took it to the dealer and they said the entire exhaust system needs to be replaced. Has anyone had this problem.

This really sounds like a DEF injection problem with the emissions system. Maybe is it injecting too much DEF? Is the DPF (diesel particulate filter) plugged or otherwise bad? My thoughts are that this is entirely an emissions related problem and should be covered by warranty. I seriously doubt that all of the exhaust system needs replacing. Take it to another dealer and press them to check for an emissions issue. I think the first dealer is misdiagnosing it.

Thanks. The car has 160k miles and the dealer said it is out of warranty. Is there a injector that can be replaced?

If you are in the US you should still try to get it covered under the 8 year EPA emissions warranty mandate.

GLK now showing 10 starts left
Thanks. Is there a way to clean the injector?
Replaced the DEF injector and it still is smoking. Mechanic recommended replacing the NOX sensors. Car showing 10 starts left. Do you have to recalibrate the computuwhen you replace the NOX sensors?
