Engine ticking noise
My recently acquired 2013 glk350 has a ticking noise from the engine. Don’t know if it’s a valve train issue or a noisy fuel injector

Maybe a 30 second YouTube video highlighting the ticking would be helpful. One person's ticking might be very different than others think ...

Dry and cracked serpentine belt
Cracked plastic pulley or idler
Loose exhaust manifold
Cracked exhaust manifold
Valve train component
Dry and cracked spark plug insulator
And on and on …
An auto diagnostics stethoscope can help pinpoint the location. Just be careful around the belt, pulleys, and radiator fan.

Mine has ticked since the day I bought it 4 years ago. It hasn't gotten worse in that time. I just assumed it is normal. What, me worry.

I bought my 2014 GLK 250 Bluetech brand new. And this year comes my 10th year of ownership. There is always a clicking noise from under the hood. I can only notice it when I slowly crews close to a wall on the driver's side with window down, so the clicking noise would bounce back to me. The clicking time interval is about every 3-4 seconds. If what I have descripted is same as what you have experienced, I wouldn't worry about it.

The high pressure fuel pump clicks, mine does, my 13 always has a bit. There are different “clicks” , valve lifter , timing chain , high pressure fuel pump, main bearing, , I can’t hear it from here. Use a stethoscope to pinpoint it. , just a broom stick will work!

Interesting & helpful comments regarding the engine ticking noise. Several possible causes are mentioned, some of which I had not considered. Another one to consider is wear in the counterbalance shaft chain. This applies only to the 2009-2012 models because the engine introduced in 2013 is a 60 degree V design. It does not have the counterbalance shafts.
