So I have a glk350 that had the fuel smell in the cabin. Took that to a shop and got that fixed. After that it started randomly dying while driving. Replaced both fuel pumps and they sent the computer to be reflashed I believe. It still has the same issue. They then said it was a module under the rear seat but basically told me to come get the car from there shop. I don’t know much about these cars so any help is appreciated

 

You mention "glk350", but no year and sub-model. Mileage would also be useful.

So, it still randomly dies. Has it been scanned for error codes? If yes, which one(s)?

Does it ever go into limp mode - or engine simply shuts down? Does it only die coming to a stop, or while in motion?

 

The fuel smell is because one of the two fuel-related devices under your rear seat cracked. A very common failure.

The configuration varies from model to model, but basically one will be a fuel level sender, and the other a fuel pump. But the system is "complicated", especially the fuel pump side. It sure sounds like the shop botched the install, and/or installed a bad part (off-brand parts for this application are notoriously bad, and can fail out of the box). At any rate, it sounds like you're dealing with a shop that knows nothing about the GLK (or Mercedes in general, since the GLK is very similar to many other, more common MB vehicles). You'd do well to have the car scanned with an MB-specific scanner, or at least a full-featured bi-directional scanner that can figure out what's wrong with the fuel delivery (or whatever else is causing your problems).

 

Also:
Who are “they.”
An MB dealer? An independent MB or German car shop? An independent general repair shop?

Flashing the ECU is a rather unusual repair tactic.

The VIN would be useful so anyone replying could see what equipment was included on your GLK.

It’s a 2014 with around 220,000 miles.

They did not replace the module and basically wanted me to get the car off there property. Turns out they are now under investigation.

It doesn’t go into limp mode. Sometimes it dies while driving and sometimes it dies while trying to accelerate from a stop. It was scanned I don’t remember the codes but I have the paperwork somewhere. I’ll post when I get off work

 

lastvin.com say that is not a valid VIN. Can you check that letters or numbers have not been transposed?
