GLS 450 vs 550 ... I'm switching from Audi to MB ...

Hello All,

I'm new here. About me ... I've been an Audi enthusiast for a long time. Currently I am driving a 2017 Audi S6 sedan. I am going to replace a Suburban and have no interest in the Q7 as a family car, so I'm ready to move over (up! lol) to a GLS 450 or 550. I've done some research but am wondering if you can give me some guidance om the following:

Is it rare to find a 450 with the Driver Assistance Package? I'm not finding any GLS 450's with this package and some of the others I would want, which are standard on the 550 such as: premium package, lighting package, parking package, etc. I assume this is because once you get the 450 all optioned up you might as well just get a 550. Am I missing something?

What's a reasonable % off MSRP for me to press for on a 2017 GLS 550? There are two 550s (2017) of the 10 or so available on dealer lots close to me that are spec'd just right at just north of 100k msrp. In the world of Audi's, a person can join the Audi Club of North America and get 6% off MSRP without much trouble. Is there anything like this in the MB world? On my special order S6 I was able to get 8% off quite easily, plus incentive, see next question...

Are there any factory incentives in the Mercedes-Benz world? In addition to negotiating a % off MSRP for an Audi, one needs to make sure the dealer doesn't pocket the factory incentive, such as conquest cash and specific model incentives. Is there anything like that for MB?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

2017 GLS 550 Black Designo porcelain/black interior, night pack, chrome pack, driver assistance
i am an audi guy myself i have a 2013 s6 and before that audi a8l. our family truckster became the gl450 once we retired the audi allroad on the a6 platform. we have had 2 gl450 over the last 8 years and last year picked up a gls 550. really happy with the car and i love the engine driving it. such a huge car with such a great engine. that is me speaking knowing what an s6 feels like. if you can get the 550 you will not regret it.

2017 GLS550,. 2016 S550,. 2018 GLE AMG Coupe, 2017 C300 Convertible (traded), 2017 SLC300 (traded),
Driver Assistance package not common on GL450, had 2013 GL450 that MSRP was $82K, but didn't have Driver Assistance Package. Bought 2017 GLS550, loaded with MSRP $106K, drives totally different than GL450. Torque always available, minimal body roll, 9 speed transmission keeps RPM's low (2000 RPM=85MPH) and Driver Assistance Package makes freeway driving in LA area less stressful.

Regarding discount off MSRP, So CA dealer's only giving about 2.5% discount on GLS. Forum discussions indicate other regions have better discounts, you can look up forum discussions to get a feel for your region.

Don't believe GLS has many incentives other that Fleet Discount in So CA.

IMHO no comparison between Audi Q7 and GLS550, you wouldn't be disappointed in the GLS.

Thanks, guys. I put a deposit down yesterday on a 2017 GLS 550. Iridium Silver/Crystal Grey/Night Package with Driver Assistance Package and Active Curve System. Dealer is giving me 7.5% off here in Salt Lake City.

My wife and I really liked the V8. I wanted her car to be similar to my S6 in power and feel, which is what sold me on the 550 with the Active Curve System. Also, I like the styling of the front grill and wheels much better than the 450.

GLS550 is the best choice if you would like to wait a year to get one. Intelligence drive package has everything you asking and it very useful.

Considering currently situation GLS 450 should in your shopping list because it's high demand car and you will fell very lucky if you can get one whatever 450 or 550 even 63 within 6 month. I am lucky to get me truck by 2 weeks, it suppose for show room.

If you load up a 450 to 550 levels they are almost the same price while you miss a superbly more powerful vehicle. Given the mass of the GLS that extra power is very, very desirable. Not only do you get more power, you get a more advanced suspension system standard, bigger brakes and bigger, wider tires.
