Selling my GLS 550 to get the S560
Hi everyone,
My dealer have recently offered me to trade in my 2017GLS 550 for a 2018 S560. I have been driving GL’s for more than 4 years. What is your opinion? I don’t neeed the space on GLS anymore however , love the way it drives.

I love my GLS but have always wanted an S class. I would miss the ride height of the GLS but I'm certain I would love all the tech and beautifully quiet ride of the S.

Completely different animals altogether. If its your only car I would keep the GLS. There is a lot of utility baked into the GLS. If you seat more than 4, tow, or ever drive off pavement your S class is not going to cut it. If you dont need the utility by all means an S class is a better driver, handles better, has the latest and greatest tech and is even more comfotable than the GLS. It also drinks less gas!

Have both, 2016 S550 and a 2017 GLS550, nothing rides or drives like the S class, but I prefer to drive the GLS. Specific reasons are, it sets higher and I feel like I get a better view of the road; ability to haul/tow when needed; and being 6’8” tall and 65+ years old I have to “fall” into the S550 seat where I can step into the GLS. Getting out of the S550 is also a challenge if I cannot open the door wide open. The S Class is hard on my knees, but would say once in the S class it is comfortable to drive.
I don’t see a hugh MPG difference on the highway. Drive LA / Phoenix every 3/4 weeks and get 25MPG in S550 and 21.5 in GLS. GLS is 9 speed and S is7 speed so there is a RPM difference on highway.
Either choice, you will be driving in style.

Hi, I am also planning to trade in my 2017 GLS450 for a 2018 S450 in a few months. Can you let me know what kind of deals you are getting from your dealer? Thanks

One thing .. the S has much better tech such as multibeam LEDs, they are amazing. For this one option alone, I'd upgrade to S-Class.

IUnderstood. I've owned SUVs as well. Currently own a jeep wrangler. Enjoy owning different rides because of the points of view on the road among other attributes. The OP changing to a sedan from SUV is not a bad idea either.

In fact they don't, Though we don't get the full German system functionality, the headlights of the GLS and S class are completely different. The new S class, like the E class, has the system with a ton of individual LEDS that make up the beam. The GLS uses the same system as the new C class. Having used them both, the new multiLED system is significantly better, particularly the low beams. Furthermore, the new multi LED headlight have a completely separate side lamp for turning situations which is also lacking in the GLS system. The GLS system is not bad aside from the mediocre low beam pattern, the new multi LED system on the E and S class are the gold standard for the industry even without the full functionality available in other countries. BTW its not only me saying it that was the measured conclusion of the insurance institute of highway safety IIHS.

Brightness is essentially identical the difference is pattern. On the GLS, and C class for that matter, there is a sharp cutoff on the left side low beam. On the E class the cut off isnt there, the low beams have an uniform pattern
