$900 for a brake job? Are you kidding me?!
Sensor light went off at 25k miles (seems a bit early but my wife tends to jam on the brakes despite my counseling to coast into stops).
My trusted indy shop quoted $1k, which surprisingly was higher than $900 quoted by my local dealer (that's for front OR rear pads and new rotors).
Prices are sky high here in SF bay area but that was still way above what I used to pay for my BMW ($500-600 per axel).
Any thoughts?

Sounds like normal dealer pricing, not bad if it's pads and rotors really.
You can always source the parts online for cheaper, even the exact OEM parts. Labor will be around 2 hours, at most dealers that't nearly $400 right there.

Next time, maybe consider a cheaper brand? Mercedes is well known for very high maintenance costs. BTW, 900 bucks for rotors and pads is about par for the work you describe. If you want cheaper check with MIDAS

Sport Package or "straight" GLS450 ?
For "straight" GLS - OE rotors are normally affordable - like $200 for a set - pads can be a pricier choice - OE pads are bit pricey....

Labor no parts was 260 per axle for rotors and pads at my mercedes dealership.
If that sounds interesting you can always source your own parts and bring them to your sa
I brought him ebc rotors and akebono pads. Preference may vary depending on what you want out of your brakes.

Find a Mercedes indi shop to do the work. Also use her money to pay for the brake job

^He said he had an indy already.
Thos GLS are BIG rides, and not a shocker that your old lady wore them out with that braking style.
Stay on her about the coasting and not jamming on them.
But yes, MB are expensive to maintain...........

Ouch! My little GLE runs me about $500 at the indi shop and $600 at the dealership for front brakes. After 4 sets, at 40k miles, I can only imagine how much my wife would be screaming at me if I upgrade to a GLS and wear those out.

So to close this out - went to another indy shop and ended up paying only $500+ for the job. He showed me the parts and explained that Benz had not properly lubricated the brakes on the right side and also the grooves in the rotors which necessitated replacement. Definitely one of my top 3 mechanics ever. Needless to say I am not impressed with Benz service department.
