front seat cover replacement?
my 2013 GL450 front driver seat mb-tex fake leather has started to peel off. i tried to use leather repairing kit but doesn't look that good plus the peeling came back in no time.
was thinking about ordering the seat cover (part no 20 in the diagram: https://www.mbonlineparts.com/auto-p...omponents-scat) and replace it (like @jroach did here : https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...acement-2.html). i looked at our car, the seat cushion is similarly held by 2 torx bolts, however our car also has a side panel with seat adjustment buttons, which is in turn attached to the seat mount / rail so i couldn't just take the cushion off by undoing the torx bolts. can't quite figure out how to detach the button panels from the cushion. does anyone know how to go about this?

I’m in the middle of the replacement. Got everything off.
Popped off silver cover. Broke two tabs but it still has 3. Not sure how to pop it off without breaking any tabs.
You can see where the holes line up.
Broken tabs
There are 4 torx screws that need to be removed.
Red one is for two bottom screw required to release bottom seat. Clear one is for 4 side adjustment assembly removal.
Need to disconnect light connector. Pretty straightforward.
Disconnect heating element wire.
Both covers
Bottom look
The seat codes are a bit different but both say 166 and black.
There are rings attached to a rob that runs through the foam to keep the cover looking plush.
See rings. I just used a screw driver to open them up. It’s going to be tough to put these back.
Foam seat, heating element is just below the white felt cover. Built into seat.

Waiting on my high school junior to put it all back together. I wanted him to get more handy since he’s driving this ‘war wagon’.
Everything clipped back in place.
The finished product. Can’t smooth it too much more or it’ll definitely look way better than the passenger side.
Pretty much done.
No issues whatsoever. Everything just goes back in reverse. The little hooks are not as bad as they looks.

That's crazy. My 164 GL has MB Tex and, after 12+ years of ownership and 250k miles, they still look new. Must have been a bad batch or MB started to make cheaper MB Tex.

worst thing about it is I bought it as CPO at a Mercedes dealership and they passed it as leather not MB-Tex. We just picked up an X7 and passed it down.

Kudos! Thanks for being brave to attempt it, doesn't look too bad! I didn't have the courage to just pull that silver trim out. Did the silver trim go back secure enough the few broken tabs? I suppose if I'm really **** about it could also order a new silver trim...

Thanks! Yes, I think 3 of them broke. I probably could’ve saved 1 but I got hasty. There was about 4-5 still intact so it held together and snapped in place just fine. I was more worried about getting the right cover than anything.
