The new GLS has been available for some time now, and the new GLE even longer, but still no sign of any AMG 63. Any thoughts on reasons for the long wait and when, or if, they can be expected?

The GLE 53 was announced back in February and I believe will go on sale in the next month or two. There has been no official press on either the GLE or GLS 63 yet. Most are thinking these will orderable sometime next year as 2021 models. Frankly, the US factory is struggling to produce what is already on the market with various supplier issues. The rollout of the GLE has been a mess. Some who ordered even last December don't have their cars yet, and worst part, MBUSA gives no info on these orders.
The GLE53 is a 2021 model which will on sale in fall of 2020. I would imagine that the GLE63 may be revealed next month in LA. GLS63 in NY in April, both would be obviously 2021 models at this point.

In the US, 2021 models cannot go on sale until January, 2020. "For regulation purposes (such as VIN numbering and EPA emissions certification), US & Canada government authorities allow cars of a given model year to be sold starting on January 1 of the previous calendar year." I think the 53 will be a 2020, unless it slips.

Ok, thanks. Makes sense that there are some issues with production since there aren't any petrol versions available in Europe/Sweden yet. Looking forward to replace my three year old GLS 500 but am not interested in the diesel versions that are currently available here. Hopefully they will sort out whatever production problems they have before it's time for production of the AMG. maybe they should move the entire production of the AMG-versions to Germany - not just the motors

GLE 53 WILL NOT be a 2020 model.
There is no allocation for this car now, which there would have to be in order for it to arrive before the end of the year.
I believe we won't see the car until spring and it will be badged a 2021

I guess you can, after the model has been launched, and as long as you are willing to pay for it. I tried to add rear seat fold-out cup holders for an R-class years ago, but even though it would be possible by ordering a number of parts I choose not to do so in the end because it ended up insanely expensive. I guess an AMG-grille wouldn't come cheap!
