GLS 450
Prepaid Maintenance and Extended Limited Warranty

Hi all! First-time poster and first-time owner of a Mercedes, so I'm open to all guidance here. I've ordered a 2022 GLS 450 with delivery expected at the end of September. I've called around to several dealers and the best quote I've received on the 4-year prepaid maintenance is $2850. Is this worth it? I'm unfamiliar with Mercedes dealer service costs but looking at my local dealer's website, service A costs ~$300 and service B costs ~500...which would total $1600 for two of each so I'm a bit lost on how the prepaid maintenance is $2850 when the descriptions of what's included are identical. Am I missing something?

Additionally, on the ELW I've received a quote for $4500 for the 7 year 100K - does that seem like a good deal?

Appreciate any and all insight!

Reach out to Jeff Jackson and you may get a better price on the ELW. My price for a GLS580 for 7/100K was $4250. You can also ask him about the prepaid maintenance. Best option is to reach him via email. He normally responds within a day.

Actually the quote I referenced was from MB of Louisville but it was from Brandon and not Jeff. I'll see if Jeff has different pricing. But any thoughts on if it's worth it? I don't have a good understanding if there's a savings because my dealership shows service A at $300 and B at $500 so it still doesn't feel like a good deal.

Prepaid maintenance depends on whether you are going to keep the car for more than 3 years. For me the price was worth it as I bought a 4 year plan and I plan to keep the car for more than that.
Also I don't have to worry about any price changes if any in the future.
I read a lot of posts here related to prepaid maintenance for all cars (AMG and non-AMG) before making the decision.

Let me get you a quote and example contract for a Complete Manufacturers Extension policy from Freedom Warranty, you'd have more coverage, with further distance options, and covered for $275 and hour. If for nothing else, a bargaining chip to try to get the dealer lower on their price. Text or Call me at (602) 909-9216 or you can send me an email at tgibson@highline-autos.com

I’m a first time poster, and have a 2022 GLS 450 on order. Following this thread closely because I’m also interested in the prepaid maintenance and MB factory extended warranty. My question is this: Can one shop different MB dealerships and purchase these plans from a MB dealership other than the one selling the car?

I just bought a 2021 E-class and I was struggling with the same thing. Are we missing something here or are they just hoping that their customers just won't look up the prices? My dealer is asking $400 for an A service which looks like an oil change and some additional checks. My guess is 30min in labor plus oil and a filter. Is there some additional value that isn't described?

FWIW, if you are purchasing and using in California, then you do not need the extended warranty. The manufacturer is required to extend the warranty to 7 years and I can't recall the mileage, but for all emissions related items of which there are many, they have to be covered under warranty as long as the owner has maintained the vehicle per standard guidance.

If you live in a area with reasonable dealer prices, the prepaid might not make sense -- to start. For others, it may save some money. A couple of things that might not be in the dealer's standard that are in the prepaid however. Wiper blades (more important if you have the magic vision thing as those blades are expensive). Brake Fluid flush/fill on the B service, and cabin filter change at the 40k service.

I think the real value comes in if you buy the prepaid after a couple of services, as the first couple are cheap and easy. At 50k will include air filter and spark plugs, and at 60k transmission drain and fill.

California and the states that follow CA rules do have an emissions warranty requirement that requires manufacturers to cover more parts than the federal emissions warranty. It however covers nowhere near what a real extended warranty would cover.

The copy of the booklet I had on hand doesn't include the x167, but it won't be materially different than the x166. Here are the parts covered in CA and the other CA emissions states beyond the federal emissions warranty.

Thanks, this helps. Not sure if the price is justified but the magic vision wipers are pretty steep I hear you. I was focused on the A service as that was a surprise since it is only really an oil change but magic wipers (fluid ducts/connectors in the blades themselves) would make it close.
