Water coming from rear tailgate when open

2021 GLS63 is pretty much a garage queen doesn't get much exposure to rain but it was at the dealership for service and I'm sure was sitting outside during a heavy rainstorm the other night. When I opened up the rear tailgate water poured out for almost 2 minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?

C450, GLS 63 and a few other things
It looks like form those picture the water is coming from the gap between the plastic panels on the inside of the hatch? If so, I've never seen water come from and doesn't seem like a place water should be sitting...

Yes, I tried posting a video but it wouldn't accept the file.
It's definitely coming from the gap where the two pieces meet. Water must be sitting in the lower half and after the hatch is opened it starts to leak from the joint.

Water sitting in there is (obviously) not good, so I guess back to the dealer for you. Good thing its been in the garage and this isn't a bigger issue. Keep us posted on the fix.

Wow, sorry to see this. And on a car that costs as much as it does and from a brand like MB?

MB calls this the S-Class of SUVs. Hard to see how they can do this with a straight face.

Because it’s under warranty the dealer will solve it. If this happens out of warranty, the places to look for the leak would be top liftgate seal, glass surround seal, wiper penetration and taillamps.

Made an appointment at the dealer for Monday. I'll follow up with their findings.

Update

Mercedes claims that a grommet from a clip was missing on the rear tailgate chrome trim. I had the piece removed from a third party custom shop to be painted and supposedly it was not put back together correctly allowing water to come in. They have installed new grommets, so now we wait for rain.

I just experienced this same issue with my 2020 GLS 450, and no grommets were removed for anything custom or otherwise (at least not by me). Mine began to leak after having it in the dealership for service and a few recalls.

Did the grommet fix the issue? My photos look identical to yours and I have security video of me also yelling at the car

Still of my video of water pouring out of lower panel :\
