Exclamation Mirror Tapping a Dashcam/Radar Detector

Has anyone been able to mirror tap a dash cam or radar detector? I saw a post on a GLE being done as someone tapped into it here. It's very hard to find any one doing these things on this specific car, last resort to going to a specialized car/audio installer to do this for me.

What I read so far, no one has identified the correct wire. Also hearing wires that provide a true 12V is tough to find without running a wire all the way to the rear. We have a 12V cigarette socket up front, so that seems like a guaranteed closer source if someone can find where the wire bundle location runs.

The Fitcamx dashcam uses a Y adapter cable to power their unit so it must be possible. Report back if you find a solution.

I am looking at this as well as it seems most all of the usual suspect circuits that shut down when the ignition is off are staying awake for at least several minutes after the vehicle is off. I could run wires all the way from the rear fuse box, but I would prefer to avoid this is I can.

I was only able to find a 12v that "stayed awake" for my detector but had to abandon it because my acoustic windshield blocked radar frequencies when positioned in the top left corner.

Yes, acoustic glass blocks radar, but there are two areas for radar detector, and also a dash cam.
Lower center of the windshield just above the dash, and to the upper right of the rear view mirror.
Take a look at your onboard owner's manual for locations.

Yes, I know, that's why I abandoned my original location. I left the tap in place but am just using the basic lighter plug now as the detector sits in the lower center of the windshield. I still don't believe it's picking up KA bands at the same range compared to my GL. I'm highly disappointed because the same option in my GL gives 3 locations - top left(where my detector used to be - tapped into the mirror), center low, and top right.

Does the acoustic glass block dash cams as well?

Do you know if under the rear view mirror mount will have any effect on the radar? I have acoustic glass and just purchased an MirrorTap and Belmount (under the rear view mirror).

It does. Your onboard owner's manual shows the radar openings.
