Is this saying that Maybach and AMG combined sold more than 580s over that period? I thought the 580 was more popular than that...

Is it really that surprising that people would skip the 580? If you want a top end GLS the AMG and Maybach are it. The 580 sits in this weird middle ground where it's not quite an AMG but it's not a base 450 either. Then add the ability to get the AMG line package on the 450 and the only difference to most people between the 450 and 580 is the V8. Those same people likely won't care about the power and instead would opt for the slightly more fuel efficient and available version.

I think the attraction of the 580 is its power. It edges out the 63 because of the 48 volt boost and even quicker throttle response.

Kind of a sleeper.

By the way, this was for “2022-2023” and from what I recall Mercedes stopped making and selling the GLS580 for most of MY2022 (or was that MY2021, they are all starting to blur together).

That would make a lot more sense! Thanks for the reminder.
