1980 240D kills a CLK55
Thats right.. you heard it right... CLK55 dominated by 1980 240D.. Small enhancements like 5.6 liter V8 in 240, but o well. custom 560sel motor in 240D chassis.. what a sleeper!! i love this car

The 560 (M117) couldn't be NA if it were to be pulling along the weight of a W123.
That is,...Unless this thread is a joke? If not, share with us the custom fabrication technique involved in this project.

let see, nkNAUZ, hmmm...my guess is that you put a smallblock chevy engine + nitrous in it, then sprayed enough to melt the block into a 1200 lb paperweight.

That motor put out 238 horsepower, yes?
(At least that's what Edmunds.com says, in this spec link, although I found another site claiming 276, still 100 shy of a CLK55)
Kind of hard to believe that it "dominated" a motor putting out at least 100 more horsepower stock to stock, frankly...it seems, to put it mildly, like a stretch, even if that motor has been heavily modded.
Also, did you bolt a five-speed in there? Because giving up 100 horsepower and a gear makes it that much harder to swallow...
How about some more info, specs on the 240, dragstrip videos, etc?

a motor from a 560 sel (which can range from 1986-1991) has 238 hp and 287 ftlbs of torque. unless you have a supercharger, and intercooler, and turned up the boost to 9 psi, i dont believe you (and it doesnt look like you have any of that from the picts either)...and not to mention..those old 240Ds wernt exactly light in weight either. If you live in the Sacramento area. i challenge you to a duel. sac raceway. my clk55 vs. your 240d with the 560sel motor. would make a good vid. if your car really does smoke mine.

hm....i beg to differ. i owned one. and on mbusa.com it says that its 238hp. i dont know if they still have the facts of prior models up still though =( (i printed mine and posted it on my wall of car facts. lol
and that would be amazing if in 1986 they had a 5.6 litre motor for the 560sel pulling over 300hp. stock.

300 hp (220 kW)
/5000 rpm
455 Nm / 3750 rpm ~ 320 TTQ
Thats if he has the Euro engine like i do
With a simple SL linkage(12 bucks) he can add 10 RWHP and 15 RWTQ...
With removing oil sunktion tube you get better performance over 3000rpm ( im not sure of the numbers-it accelerates alot better)
theirs a few other mods cheap mods for free hp that i cant think of right now .
p.s. you have to give props to the old benz's or else haha jk

A stock 560SEL would do a high 15 quarter mile... now, take at least a thousand pounds off .. and change its 2 series rear end to a 4 series rear end...plus some other little additional things. The car is NA, for now. Might end up with a smaller supercharger, we have extra motors laying around just in case and a few rear ends. its ugly, but thats the best thing about it. A Mercedes 5.6 litre motor sounds great without all the restriction.
Future add.
17" 3-peice AMG monoblocks - 10" rear 8' front. yes they fit perfect. just need new rubber.
Once the car is fine tuned we might look into a supercharger or small turbo. The car already doesnt lke to hook up.
I never said the "560E" had a high top end.
Let me refine the original statement, from a standing stop, the 240 got a jump on the clk and kept it. kill might have been extravagant but its the point that a 123 is about the same speeds if not a little faster than a clk55 (208)from a standing stop. this car has been a project that turned out great. i will hopefully have a slip this summer. we have to tune the car and finish it up before spring. last summer we got it done after 5 years of sitting and it barely got any miles on it. the rear axle shafts are bad so we could not jump on it or drive it far from the house in fear of blowing them out and being stranded.
this is preliminary. I hope the car does waht it is supposed to. the computer numbers say the car, given the motor, rear end, weight. all the variables should do a high 12 low 13. so right on par with a clk 55 actually.
