Modded C32 gets smoked by 911 Turbo

Getting ready to take the hairpin to get on the 8 freeway today from Mission Bay, I see a silver Porsche in the rearview, and he is riding my ***. I have a passenger, Porsche guy is alone. I figure "game on." I take the hairpin as fast as I can with my stock suspension and stock-sized tires, and I think I see him falling asleep from boredom, as he is probably utilizing about 50% of his cornering ability. As we come out of the turn, there is only one lane free. I am in 2nd, and drill it. I think that I caught him a little off guard, as I put a car or two more distance from him. As I go into third, it was like he hit the afterburner, as he closed the gap in about two seconds, but couldn't pass as there was no room. We went up to 130 or so with him on my ***. It was obvious that there was no way that I was going to pull him. As he passed, we exchanged thumbs up, and I saw the scripted "Turbo" on the back of the beast. I assume that it was a 996, as it looked modern. All I can remember is that it had odd-shaped exhaust tips (kind of like sideways teardrops). Freaking car was quick.

DAMN!!! btw, I forget what mods do you have? Its those types of kills that make me want to go out and spend more money to make my C32 faster, since at that point I am not fast enough... fortunately I have only been smoked by a motorcycle on the streets...

Similar to yours, but Evosport. Plus weight reduction. I wish that I would've been alone (also had a full tank and 50 lbs of laundry in the trunk). I know, excuses, excuses. I think that I would've lost even under optimal conditions, in any case.

C32 AMG
996

If it was modern with script "turbo" and didn't have a big whale tail, it was a 996TT. Having had a (only stock) C32 and a 996TT, I can say that the C didn't compare to the turbo in any way except passenger hauling and would venture to say that's true even for a modded C32. Of course, with the price difference there should be no comparison!

I think a well-launched C32 vs. a 996TT (babied, no 6K RPM clutch dump) from a light up to 40 or 50 would be close. The TT has a very short first gear which I causes a tough shift that delays things a bit. But once on boost in 2nd.....bad news. The TT felt like it didn't lose any steam until 160 or 170 whereas the C32 was around 110.

Great race and great cars!!

with a pulley and ECU the c32 does not loose any steam till about 140+...

i have a pulley only, and I hit 140 on a empty highway with no problems.. and I had plenty more to go.

Stock form, it was more around 120 when the car stopped really pushing, but I would not call it a handicap, it will still have enough power to beat up on STI's, EVO's, M3, 350z... ect.

The TT996 is just plain fast and thats why its called a sports car and we are a sports sedan.

I don't mind loosing to a 996Turbo, as long as he knows he needed to bring it on to overtake the C32.

Only if you maim, but do not kill them. If you kill them, then they are not there for the next guy to play with, so death = minus points. Maximum points are achieved for serious, debilitating injury of formerly-healthy pedestrian. The real trick is to hit the drooling wheelchair guy (who has previously been struck several times) and cause him additional injury, without death. Obviously, the "Vegas Slasher" has a very low point total, as he just goes around killing people and ruining the game for the rest of us who are willing to "play by the rules."

I think even moderate launch will see the 996TT walk the c32. If anything it takes even more skill to launch a c32 properly than the porsche.

There`s no harm in having a go even though you know you will lose.

I`m hunting GT3`s at the moment to see how hard they have to try to get away

How do the performance specs of a 996 Turbo and a C5 Z06 stack up? I have raced both on the freeway, and I seemed to do alot better against the Z06 (still lost, but not by much) than against the Turbo.

Not only are the 996TTs fast but that AWD gives the car a launch off the line like nothing else. My TT was heavily modded but it was the fastest car I have owned to date and by far racked up the most kills including steet bikes and racers running Nos. There is nothing like dumping the clutch at 6500rpm and launching out of the hole like a rollercoaster. My closest race was a heavily modded WRX running Nos.

It can be almost impossible to tell what a 996TT is running under the hood. It can be anywhere from the stock 415hp all the way up to a whopping 900rwhp, with no exterior mods. For example, my 996TT makes over 750hp and traps in the quarter at 136mph.

I have surprised many and lost to none!!
