SUV BATTLE: 00 Grand Cherokee vs 2006 Mercedes ML320 CDI

Hi killers!

I've got a friend of mine who owns his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I believe its a 4.7 version not H.O. one. So its something around 235bhp if I remember corectly. Well, anyways, this is gonna be a 100 dollars race from 0-60 MPH and from 0-100 MPH. Today by midnight should be done. Any chances of him beating me?

I dont think he will beat you but it would pretty close. The ML 320 CDi has tremedous torque. It almost reaches 400 lb's of torque.

Okay, from 0-60 MPH he is always faster, he gets the jump immediately (1/2car) and up to 60MPH he is walking, but once we hit 60, I am catching up and by 70-75 I am slowly passing him.
I dunno why, but those damn Jeep launch like crazy!

Watch out for the V8 Grand Cherokees, they aren't something to take lightly. I drive a 5.9L Grand Cherokee and its dam quick for what it is. They run under 15 sec in the 1/4 mile stock and was the fastest SUV of its time. They are fairly light have really torquey V8s and are full time AWD. Thats why they launch like crazy.

Well, I didnt win since he was faster to 60 and he didnt win since I was faster to 100. So basically it was lets say 1:1.
GCs are really slow at higher speeds though......

Yeah, the gearing. Even my 4.0 (I-6) gets off the line real good (not as good as the 55 tho.. ). At high speeds tho (tops out at 80mph?) it's hopeless.

Good roads? You mentioned gearing for the autobahn.
I doubt your monster ml320 is geared for anything....let alone the autobahn.

It is good you love your ml320...you are probably upside down in it, so you better love it.

Normally, I take your comments pretty lightly. But you're just a total jackass now.

Enjoy your Chrysler, and I'll enjoy whatever the hell I'm driving next.

Nice! I love these SUV battles.

Haha, i'm just thinking how impressive my mom's van is. I've gotten it up to 105MPH which is redline in 3rd gear. It's damn sluggish off the line (does 0-60 in about 11 seconds) but has good midrange power.

Well, I dont know how you define a bad driver, but in these cars you just floor it and thats it. When we both floor it at the same time I kill him immediately he is falling back, but when I let him go first, I am slowly catching up, but cant pass him at all, in fact he is slowly walking above 70MPH.

Race from a roll: Mercedes will be ALWAYS faster from a roll. Jeeps they always die at speeds above 80MPH.
