First real challenge on the road...

So, I was going back home from picking up a new camera (nikon d40x), and was all excited to go and try it out. There's some traffic on the road, and a couple of cars in front of me is somesort of fast Audi...I don't really know them too well, but saw the glimpse of the red badge on the side. After some quick lane changes () I catch up to it and see it's a wider A6, and when I get even closer I see it's a RS6!!! It has the two fatty exhaust pipes instead of the set of 4. I get all excited, but there is just way too much traffic to do anything. So I say to myself, oh well, don't do anything stupid. I go to make a right and the Audi is going straight. I turn and all of a sudden hear this great exhaust note screeching beside me, it was the Audi! I guess he saw my AMG badge and wanted to play.

We line up at the red, I power brake, revving it up to 3000RPM. Honestly the first time I ever tried this, never needed to with anyone else. I know of the current RS4's power, so I assumed that the RS6 was pretty fast. With power to all the wheels I wasn't actually expecting to win. But I launched well and the yellow triangle only blipped for a bit and I was at 60 in a blur, and the RS6 was actually at my back wheel! At around 80 he almost caught up, but I decided to slow down just a bit cuz thinking this was over. He kept on pushing, and I slammed on the gas again, this time playing catch up. We both stopped at around 120 I think, and at the next light we exchanged thumb ups and he took a left.

I called my Audi-obssesed friend and told him the story. He said it was either a horrible driver or a really amazing poser job.

Whatever, it got my blood going!

You have an E55K or the NA E55? I know the new RS6 isn't out yet, so it would have been an 03 or 04 RS6. If you had an E55K I'd think it would have been a pretty easy win.

Gotcha. M113 is used in the E55 car as well (M113 E55 ML), then again my SLK55 has an M113 E55 to. Very confusing.

Question, how were you able to hold and rev the engine up to 3k rpm's without moving . It's very hard to believe because The tranny won't permit it! Impossible. Plus you would have had hella! wheelspin. At the track we never have to rev our AMG's that high for an optimal launch so I'm tempted to call BS on your story.

I believe the story as you always seem to post sensible things.

However, the RS6 does not have red badging on the side. In fact, it has no badging on the side at all. The car you ran was most likely a modified 2.7t.

An E55k is beating the 03 RS6 from the lights (provided it's dry), but not a stock C55.

Oh my car was trying to budge foward a lot, maybe it wasn't 3k though? I kept staring up at the light, only glanced at the tach quickly. Hardly any wheel spin from launch.

The Audi had the red RS badge in back, didn't notice if it had anything on the side. I did some research last night on it, and the RS6 sure is faster than the C55. Like I said, either a amazing poser or an idiot.

I apreciate the fact checkings, really, but I'm not the kinda guy to brag about silly stuff like this. I tell it like it happened.

You could take an RS6, its not that much faster than a C55. I was crushing the RS6 on the track . They were chipped as well. So a stock RS6 on paper may be faster but they are heavy as hell. My 500hp vs the chipped 500hp of the rs6 left a .5-.7 secon 1/4 mile diff!! Audis are incredible when modded and its likely this was a stock RS6 with a driver that chose poor shift points.

NICE KILL!!!

You're forgetting one thing: the driver. If the RS6 doesn't launch properly, its a different ball game than one properly brake torqued...I pulled an RS6 in two separate runs, both from a dead stop, which shocked me...I figured I'd lose. But from the get-go, I was ahead, which means that he obviously didn't launch that AWD sucker properly, or he'd have jumped out to a lead. Obviously, he just jumped on it from idle w/no brake loading, while I was brake loading and got good launches...badda bop, badda bing, down he went!

Of course, if he'd launched properly, I'd have been in the position I expected to be in going into it...behind him.

But their 1/4 mile times are due mostly to excellent traction....once rolling, they're not all that. Compare their 30-50 and 50-70 times to either a C55 or CLK55; they're pretty even-steven. It's mostly the low 60' time from the AWD launch that gets them into the 12's.

C55s are rare here in L.A. The last time I was next to one at the lights I was in the X5. The guy was looking all cocky and must have got a shock when I shot out the hole. I keep forgetting wifies rig does 0-60 is 6.5 secs. Anyways, he got his revenge at the next light though it was reasonably close given the difference in power-weight ratio. The higher the speeds climb, the bigger the beating I'd have got but the 4.6iS is super easy to launch at the lights and likes the twisties too with the OEM 315 r20 rears!

Yeah, AWD kicks *** on a launch, especially with an auto where all you've gotta do is load it up a bit, and scoot! Manuals are tougher, because you can either bog it or slip the clutch too much and get a nice, stinky cabin. But if you do it right, they just rip off the line. And if you've got a decent stall speed with that auto in the X5, you'll embarrass some pretty quick cars!

Apparently I can't edit my first post(?), but I meant to say that I saw a glimpse of red on the side of the badge in back .
