SLK55 and EVO MR
I was sitting in the right one of the two left-turn lanes waiting to get onto the Fairfax County Parkway tonight. A dark-colored Evo pulled up to the left lane next to me. Light turn green and we both start to make our turn. I saw that it was an MR with a huge exhaust tip. It sounded pretty deep and strong, not the typical ricer after-market fart box. Sounded like there’s been some engine tweaking.
Seeing nothing in front of me except just empty roads, I feathered the throttle a bit. He did the same so I brought my nose up to even with him and then we both floored it. He must have had bad timing on this one or missed a shift because I pulled 2 and ½ car length going from 35 to about 85.
We approached a bend and I shut it down. He eased up next to me as we are now both going about 40mph. Coming out of the bend, there was just straight empty road ahead so he feathered his pedal this time. I responded. Once our noses lined up, he jumped on the gas.
I could hear the turbo spolling as we stayed dead even from 40 up to about 80. I started to gain around 90mph. At 100, I was ½ car length ahead, and at 115 I was about 1 and ½ car lengths and pulling away.
I shut it down as we approach my exit. I gave him a thumb up and he did the same with a big grin on his face. Nice young fellow.

good kill!
do you know if it's an VIII or IX you ran?
sounds like he has the typical bolt-on's...turbo back exhaust, boost controller, ECU tune...maybe cams if he's an VIII.
My IX is making about 330whp with above mods minus cams, @ 32xx lbs (no weight reduction) i trap around 110-112mph at the track....never had the pleasure of running an slk55 yet, most slk55 drivers here do 55mph on the highway

Nice kill man, I have a lot of respect for EVO and STI guys but their cars aren't really meant for highway battles. They'll beat you up at the track (straight or twisty) but not so much on the highway.

However, the best Evo ever made was the Evo VI Makinen Edition. Since then, they've all gone a bit soft, and certainly don't look anywhere near as good.

Lizard,
I take the FCP every day to get to my office in Fair Lakes.
Sometimes I bring my SLK, sometimes my Pontiac Grand Am.
In late June, I was in a C-Class, and got a speeding ticket + reckless for going 70+ in a 50 zone. I didn't even realize that I was speeding, because I was going with the flow of traffic, and I maybe I was clocked while I was switching lanes from right lane to left?
The police officer was sitting in the grassy median up ahead, and the cars in front of me braked hard, and so I switched to the slow right lane, so I could make the next right turn to get to my office.
That's when I just saw the police officer, and he switched on his lights, and made a U-turn, into the road, and pulled me over.
So be careful on that road!
Everyone drives in their 50s normally, and it's not uncommon for others to drive in the 60s, even with police officers around.
And to think.. I got a speeding ticket in a C-class sedan... I wasn't even aware that I was speeding!

It was just the right timing and section last night that I decided to go for it. But normally, I'd be doing 50 with soccer moms in suvs come flying pass me.

Good kill!
Yeah EVO's can be fast when tuned right. I miss my EVO but I know one day I will have a benz that runs just as fast. But I did get to run a fairly stock EVO 9 on the highway and was aBLE to beat it.
