This bronze/rust colored 350Z pulls along side of me at a red light on RT 1 in NJ.
I knew I should not have turned off my ESP, but I did anyway.
Light goes green and we take off, I spin the freaking tires and have to let off the gas, then get back on it. By this time he is 2 cars in front.
I gas it and reel him in with ease, pull by him and he let off after I had him beat by 3 - 4 car lengths - at around 90.
I didn't think my 209 would perform as well as it did against a 350Z. A fun "light to light" none the less.

My 03 350z with I,E runs high 13s @ 101. Your clk 500 should be close.He must be a poor driver.

Most 350Zs are slower top end, I've raced a G35 and a 350Z from a highway roll and both times I was able to pull in front.

I think this forum may corner the market on 1 man races. Every time i read about a weak sauce *** hp car racing a 350z its always the same 4 car lengths by 90 (that includes g35's *** well).

I must live in a void of C class super cars. For some reason they never seem to want to race down here...

6 car lengths by 90 in an inferior (power) car... Fiction can be fun..

Although the 500 has more usable power on demand, it seems as though the Z driver missed a gear to be beaten that badly so quickly. Jason, I'm not sure what you're talking about; comparing the VQ35 to the M113, the Z's motor has inferior power, especially in regard to torque. While I think that on an even playing field the result would not be so drastic, something as simple as a mis-shift can yield such an outcome on the street.

For most Z's I would agree, but I am making around 590 at the wheels. I can't think of many C class cars that would be an issue.

Suprisingly most 350z drivers dont race against me. But I did race one once. It was me vs a modded s4 vs a blacked out Z. Not sure if he was modded or not. It was from the dig up to about 110. There was a cop around so I didn't think they would race. Light turns green and they launch hard. I launch too and they are both ahead of me because they went first. All the way up to 110 we were just about even, with me on the S4's *** (he had to go into my lane to avoid a collision so I let off the gas a little). I didn't really gain any ground on the Z, maybe if I would have been all out I would have pulled half a length?

This is during my stock era lol. The Z had rims and was tinted up, could have been modded but didn't sound louder than stock.

I also know the newer Z's are faster than the 05's.

Bonestock record for a 07 350z ran a 13.2@107 in my350z.com! Mid 13s @104+ is common on the 07 Zs.

I am not meaning to be hostile. If that's how it comes off, I apologize. The way you told your "race" story was that of a race you "OMG OWNING" in that you had no business really pulling more than a car at most (unless the other driver wasn't racing...and then why post?). To come back from a 2 car deficit and gain 4 cars by 90 is absurd if 2 parties are actually racing with said vehicles.

Most of the "kills" on this forum make Civic forum kill sections look like valid races. Mix that with a blatant hate for the vq35 that a lot of members on this forum share, and I felt the need to post in response.

I think that makes me the local VQ35 fanboi

CLK500 is competitive with any year Z despite the fact that a well driven 350Z can post better quarter-mile times with higher traps. If CLK500's weren't all autotragics with no LSD their acceleration times would be quicker. I've never seen anyone formally test a 7G CLK500, but I'm sure it'll run high 13's @ 100+ no problem since that same powertrain in a CLS500 will run 14 flat @101.

You probably ran into an automatic 350z or a 6spd one driven by your average 350Z owner.

I raced mod'd '03 VQ35 Max 6spd, an '06 Max and G35.(The '03 Max's were very light at 3300lbs.) I've been able to pull on them all.

Most of the Z race stories that I've seen are from a highway roll or some sort of roll. I would reckon that most of the Z drivers involved have manuals so they have an inherent disadvantage unless they know how to downshift properly. An auto would make this race a lot closer because it is seamless when you just floor it.

In this case here the driver most likely doesn't know how to shift properly. Given the specs of both cars the outcome can go either way.

I just kicked a story about 2 cars. Wheather he drove poorly, missed a shift or whatever, that was on him. If I got beat, I would have posted that as well - part of racing on the street. No big deal.
I have a good friend with a manual 350z and its almost as fast as my car. And my w209 is by no means stock.
Maybe I just made it all up......
You are obviously touchy about anything racing a Z.

Uhh ok then i will call it like it is. You posted a BS one man race from a stop light. A completely useless "kill" post that serves no purpose other than your chest beating. It must be a tough life...that of a street RACER!
Next time make sure you aren't "racing" a mother of 3 out to get milk before you post it.

My car ran a 13.9@100 at englishtown. I had the subwoofer and amp in the trunk, half tank of gas, and I had my 19" chrome rims on with bad cheap tires.

I think Car and Driver tested the CLK500 at 13.7@103 or something.

And yes, these cars really should come with LSD, especially the 55 Kompressors and such. Thats where MB cheapened out.

Not to sure about the whole G35, 350Z thing. The 350Z was made to be a great in the corners with plenty of grunt......yet on a track where it is soposta shine it was beaten by a 535d and an RX8. Both of theis cars are not know for their handling capabilities or performance achievements.
