560SL vs Carrera 4
So my friend and I decided to do a small drag race (0-70) today. We both knew that I would lose, it was more just for fun. Well eventually we started, and surprisingly I kept up pretty well. I lost traction and was not able to gain any grip until 25mph but from start to finish he never left more than 1.5 cars. This wasnt something I expected and was definitely shocking to both of us, and yes he was pushing his car.

I know its a 996 but im not sure on the year exactly. I think he said it was an 01 but im not 100% sure. Yea well it was very wet in that area (rainded earlier that day), so yes i was spinning.

the 560sl can 1/4 around 15 sec. Believe it or not it is as heavy as the 560SEL of that generation, my friends used to drag their parents cars at the strip years ago when these things were new. One stripped the 560SEL and got 15.2 consistently, while the best time in the 560SL was 15.05

The guy possibly just sucked at driving. I've seen it before. I once raced a Gallardo e-gear for a short distance and he was so bad at driving that I was able to stay just about even with him. You'd be how suprised and how uneducated some people are when it comes to really driving a car.

996 C4S are about as fast as E46 M3's; 0 - 60 4.9 q/m 13.5@105ish. But those times are if you dump the clutch.
A roll-on launch will produce much slower times since the 4wd drivetrain adds weight and creates more parasitic losses.

We did race once from a roll and once from a dig, the roll race was closer. Maybe his car just sucks haha, oh and its an auto.

With the All wheel drive and low torque I doubt it'd spin that bad...maybe the guy dumped the clutch at redline lol ...on my dad's 997TT you could launch it at full boost from a dig and it'd hook right up and propell you foward. I doubt the Carrera4 would be any different.

Even in my B5 S4 QUATTRO, when it rained I still spun off the line. Granted, for a very short period, but spun none-the-less; so rain, coupled with an ignorant driver could very well make this story plausible.

You sure he was racing you? I mean my car runs a 15.09 in 90F weather (If I had to guess most likely high 14s in the cold due to dense air for the turbo.) and I'm fairly 100% I wont see the carrera for more than a 0-40, could be a poor driver as well.. Esp if he bogged off the line..

there is no way you one, i owned a carrera 4, and that thing was fast, you dont need any skill to drive one with an auto, only way you could of won is if you had a Huge lead. and he left his hand brake on. just my .02 cents

why would I lie on an internet forum? If you dont believe me, then dont. The race was setup, so it wasnt a random race on the street, and I told you everything which occured.
