My CLK63 BS vs. CLS55

This afternoon the gods must have been watching down. I turned out of my subdivision, pulled onto the main road and approached the stoplight. I was first in line, I was going to race myself if I had to. The next thing I know a white CLS 55 pulls up along side me. He gives me a smirk and revs his engine, he has some sort of exhaust work, because it was pretty loud. I give him the nod, apply right foot to brake left foot to gas, bump up the revs, the light turns green and BANG...I'm spinning the tires bad.....I back off, hook up, roll back on the throttle and BAM, tires are up in smoke again, he has me by a car length, I back off the throttle again and easy back on the gas, I finally hook up and put it to the floor, At about 85 mph I catch him and pass him like he is on the brakes but he is not. We ran up to 120mph and I had him by about 7 cars. At the next stoplight he alread has his window down and asks what I have done to my car. He could not believe it. He claims to have already beat a BS last fall.

You ever consider just keeping drag radials mounted in back? I have traction issues as well to 80mph...in the wet.

I am having a set of custom one-off 17 inch wheels made for the rear with a special offset that will clear the huge rear calipers, it's just taking a little longer than exprected. 18's would have been easy, lots of off the shelf fitments, but my tires choices are much better in 17's. Also 17's will allow for a taller sidewall, which is key in a drag radial so you get that flex and wrinkle hook-up traction.

You getting rid of the dymags? Why not just throw some R comps on there for added traction.

Good strategy...pinch the asphalt and launch it hard. Not to jump on the bandwagon or anything like that (), but that Black Series is incredible.

What mods do you have to pull seven cars? Not sure even a 65 series would pull that many cars lengths.

yea, i was like wtf?? hahaha. I've had to do that before though when I broke my right leg last summer. It took a little while to get used to but wasn't that hard. I had to use my left leg for everything.

Good kill though.

I'm very tempted to see what kind of numbers your car will post at the dragstrip. Nice story. 7 lengths (while losing serious traction) is a huge victory. Your car must have insane top end.

Uh....502hp at the wheels and about 500 pounds lighter than a CLS that's what! If I could have hooked it would have been much worse. Have you been sleeping for the past 6 months while the build of my car has been posted all over this site? What stock 65 do you think is going to beat my car? CL? SL? S?...not a chance in hell if it's stock. I've been lookin for a 65 to terrorize, any takers?

No, I'm not getting rid of the Dymags. The Dymags are my road course wheels and I am running Corsa DOTR compound 305's on them and I still can't hook up. The 17" forged wheels I am having made are strictly for the drag strip. I will be running DOT legal drag tires on those, DOT just incase I want to do some stop light to stoplight damage.

I should have some times posted by this coming Saturday night. I am taking it to Route 66 Raceway on Saturday morning for a few passes. These passes will be with the Dymags and DOTR Corsas, drag wheels/tires are not ready yet. I just hope the weather holds out, they are saying a 40% chance of rain. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Sorry...don't keep up with everyone's mods...shoot me.

I'll just have to wonder on your mods and take your word on the RWHP.

A chipped 65 series should give you quite a challenge.

Dyno sheets are posted, take a look at the Evosport CLK63 Black Series project car at the top of the CLK Black Series section of this forum, as well as the E class sections of the forum. That is my car, all the work was done this past winter at Evosport. I was not trying to be snide, I just don't take the time to go over all the mods when they are already up there.

Given the lengths you went to to make what is probably the fastest CLK63BS in the US, I'm surprised you haven't taken it to the dragstrip yet. Why not?
