97 E420 vs. 97-98? BMW 528i

Going home on I-75 in the far left lane in my 97 E420 behind a BMW 528i of the same vintage, 97-98? 6 lanes, all congested, stuck behind this guy in the 528, he is going about 56 in a 65, but here's the rub; it's all clear in front of him for a good 1/4 mile...its the only open hole in a sea of millions of cars, but my guy in the BMW decides to match the speed of the car in the second lane over. This goes on for about 3-4 miles, when the second lane over finally opens up...I want to be polite, so I wait about a minute, giving the BMW driver a chance to move into the second lane...not happening, so I move into the second lane and gently accelerate to 70 to overtake the BMW, and he matches my speed...again I accelerate gently a little bit more, and he speeds up again, now we're dead even, a brief 5 seconds of full-throttle with this guy, and i hear him trying, that 6 of his is just screaming (walked him rapidly and effortlessly) and I am a good 5-6 car lengths ahead of him, and he flips me off...classy. Not a very glamorous story, but the easiest kill ever and it sure felt good to dust the lane hog soundly. Looking up the numbers, the 528i is pretty pathetic: 190 HP, 206 ft/lbs, compared to my 275 HP, 295 ft/lbs. An e320 could have taken him too, just not as quickly.

I have the same problem with a stretch of highway going to North Carolina
No one is in front of them, but they ride right next to the car in the right lane. I used to ride their butts or flashed my lights but i got no results. Now I stick back a couple cars lenghts and one I see the gap i shoot it. It was a little harder in my CLK, but the E55 just rockets around the slow car.
They don't see it coming

528's should never be a problem for the M119 on the highway. It's those 540's you have to watch out for. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Many of times the left lane hog is just not paying attention, lost in a phone conversation or twiddling with his/her stereo. Usually the double high beam tap catches their attention in a friendly way.

What a f**khead....I feel your pain. It is the most irrational and maddening thing in the world. This, and people who don't know how to use cruise control (and thus speed up and slow down constantly, forcing you to re-pass them over and over again)
