2007 SL550
SL550 or 335i , which car wins??
mates help a member out for me!
i was in a forum board someone said a stock 335i would beat a clk500, which was okay by me, my opinion was clk500 and still is. but my problem is he went off and said that it is faster than MY CAR (SL 550 )
can someone explain for me..i mean 335 is a v6 300 hp car.....
sl550 is a v8 almost 400 hp;......lol
see my drift?

HP is not the only factor. Weight, gearing and TQ play a big factor also.

Assuming both cars stock and equal conditions, the 335i would marginally edge out from a dig, and vice a versa on a highway roll. If the fella in the 335i can drive, then it will be consistently close.

from what i recall reading the 335 makes 330 hp on a dyno, more then the claimed 300. If his car is stock why not try and see results out of fun
do several dig races and a few rolling races
the SL is a heavy car though...but you never know

I've seen a stock 335xi walk a CL550, granted the CL weighs 4500 lbs and the SL weighs 4200 lbs but I'm not sure if the 300lb difference will mean that much.

I understand weight makes a huge difference, I was saying IMO the 300 or so pound drop wouldn't make up for what I saw. This is purely my opinion, take it at that.
Also, the run I saw was a 335XI (all wheel drive) which adds some 200 pounds to the weight of a 335.

Just close your eyes and picture an exposed engine + wheels + susspension
Drive 335 and SL550 (or better yet CL550) for a bit longer than an hour or two. Then we will talk about driving experience.

The 335i is an amazing sports sedan/coupe. BMW really created some excitement with the twin-turbo engine. When Audi did it in 2000 with the S4, it did not get as much attention.The SL550 engine puts out more HP/Torque, but loses some of its sportiness with a heavier body and a transmission that is not as geared towards performance.
If it were me, I'd go with the SL550. And then get an old Porsche 993 for my sports car.

the SL550 is a awesome car and has a awesome engine. the weight does take away from the full potential of the car and i hope MB can address this soon. most of there cars have become luxury GT's.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda, line em up and end all this internet racing. On a hot day, the Sl550 wins 7 out of 10 against a slush box 335. On a cool day with a average driven stick 335 it's just the other way around. These two cars are very close so it depends on day and conditions. There are five pages of 335i 1/4 mile times on drag times. Three with times worse than the SL550.
