C32 AMG vs R230 SL500
My first race in about two months.
My IC pump isn't working/ working right but whatever:
I was pulling out of my school street onto the highway side road and I see a an SL getting on the road from the opposite direction. I usually just burnout and do a nice slide but I take it slow this time and let the SL pass to see what it is. As it was passing me it appeared very agressive and I thought it was an AMG or a 600 at first, but I got right behind it and saw the 500 designation.
Anyway we get on the highway, I keep following the SL, then after a while we get some room cleared up and I get into the left lane.
The guy looks over at me (I think he had a passanger) and I downshift and point forward, he smiled, but didn't do anything, so I did the floor and brake trick and he smiled again, I repeat and all of a sudden he just takes off (70roll up to maybe 120). I catch up in about 5 seconds since he got about a car and a half jump on me and then pull a car on him until there is traffic up ahead.
I take the exit and give him a wave. If you are on here; nice run dude and sexy car!

Us SL500 drivers normally do not respond that much, I just think of their brake rotors at X 3 the price of mine, and I can spin the wheels at every take off, Yes I would have loved an AMG SL65 but I did not have that much cash, I have lots of friends with the C32, and nice cars

When I was first thinking about upgrading my C36, I had the opportunity to test drive a 1998 SL600 V12. It was smooth, quick, quiet and felt very heavy. On paper compared to the C36 the cars should have performed very closely with the SL at 0-60 of 6.2 sec and the C36 at 5.9 sec and 1/4mi of 14.6 to 14.4ish.
From what I felt the SL was much slower and turned like a boat with lots of body roll. It was geared tall and felt like it might be quick on top end but I never got over about 120. I let the owner drive my C36 and when he came back all he could say was whoa, nice car, very quick. The C36 felt tighter and more in control, with better low end response and much better wide open throttle response. Where the V12 was whisper quiet, the straight 6 of the C36 would just wail. Both cars were well maintained and in proper running order. I have since traded to a C32. Running it against the SL would be a mercy killing.
