You can tell he's not a real MB or car fan. The poster didn't even know what kind of car he was "racing". Who actually cares if it was true or not...like ChristianR said, the guy was driving a Pontiac.

Very believable as that GTO has 430rwhp and probably weighs about 3,700lbs. That power-to-weight ratio would be a tough match for stock SLK32s, SLK55s or even SL55s.

7-8cars

Can't believe no one's suggested it was a poser edition SL500/550 "AMG". GTOs can be made fairly fast but this would be my guess.

Likely a true story if he ran against a stock SLK55 or SL55 AMG.

His heavily modified GTO makes 430 rwhp. Stock is 350 hp at the crank. His car probably runs the 1/4 mile in the high-11 to 12 second range with a trap speed of around 118 mph. Similar to this GTO that has similar power: http://www.dragtimes.com/Pontiac-GTO...lip-10018.html

Stock SLK55s and SL55s run the 1/4 mile a half second to a full second slower with a trap speed that are 4 to 8 mph lower. With those numbers he'd win a 1/4 mile standing start race by 6-12 cars. In a rolling 45 to 120 mph race he should be able to pull ahead 7-8 cars.

So chalk up a kill for the modified Goat against a stock V8 AMG.

Now if he was to run an SL65, an ecu-tuned SL600, or a stage 4 SL55, he'd get the experience of losing to one of those "over priced sports cars." I'm sure there are plenty of folks in this forum who would be glad to provide him with that experience as a public service.

7-8 car lengths.... it may be accurate...

http://www.dragtimes.com/Pontiac-GTO...lip-10018.html

Here is a 2004 GTO with comparable rwhp (440) running a 1/4 mile at 11.768 @ 118.12mph. It is on drag radials so the ET would not translate on the street...however, the trap is a good indicator of some serious performance.

For argument's sake let's assume the "SL AMG" is stock and traps around 112mph (the best stock SL55 on drag times trapped 111.64mph). That 6+mph difference is huge. Could that translate into 7 car lengths (say 105ft) in a 45mph-120mph roll-on? I think it is feasible.

That is funny...I started writing my response over 1/2 an hour ago. Someone came into my office to talk about a project so I had to stop. I finally finished it and submitted it. And it looks very similar to yours...

Maybe, but I'm kind of sanguine about the whose-car-is-the-fastest thing. If a GTO owner wants to put in an 800 hp twin turbo setup or a 200 shot of nitrous on top of a hot cam, his car is going to be a lot faster than mine!

I personally find it a lot more interesting to talk about which cars and which setups produce what kind of results. That's why I thought it was interesting to do the math to see if a modded GTO could pull 7-8 lengths on a bona fide AMG.

Didn't know the SL55 trapped that low stock. I thought they were closer to the M5 than 5mph. Looks like away from the lights it'll be a walk in the park, I'll keep my eye open for any stock ones.

Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut...now you will be 'donkey punching' every stock SL55 in Southern Cal....and now I am to blame..

If its putting out 430 at the wheels is about 505 hp at the crank which is ZO6 power levels. I doubt he's putting that out with an LS1. His mods would be 150hp increase with heads cam and heads. Not likely. If it's an LS2 motor it's possible with the mods he's listed. Given him the benefit of the doubt he's at least a low 12 second car or high 11''s.

My guess he ran a SLK32 or 55. He used the term "little" an SL isn't little.
Further an SL55 has monster torque and in a street race from a roll torque rules.
Ya, one second is a least 7 cars. It could happen.

"a sl63 amg roadster is what i raced 600hp 1/4 in 12.5
car weights 4555lbs 6.3 v8 so you fail now im only at 510hp but weight 3700 so thats a 855lb differancewhich easly makes up for teh hp differance"

I think i got a little dumber after I read his post seeing as how he has no sense of grammar or spelling. But apparently it was not a slk but a sl63?

Well, actually it's pretty straightforward to produce 500+ hp out of an LS1 block using "Stage 3" heads and cam plus other bolt-on parts. GM High Tech Performance upgraded an LS1 engine and achieved 550 hp--measured on a bench dyno--with this project: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ech/index.html.

The prices for GM performance parts are just silly cheap, too: $1799 for Stage 3 heads and $399 for a Stage 3 cam from Livernois Motorsports, for example.

FWIW....

SL63 is more like 525 horsepower if I recall correctly but it is a 12.5 second 1/4 mile car, give or take a bit.

For the reasons I and others describe above, I completely buy the kill story. A 500+ HP modified GTO should be a high 11 second 1/4 mile car that would pull 7-8 car lengths on a stock SL63 in a race from 45 to 120 mph.

Over-priced lol... he's just mad he can't afford one. I've driven a 6.0 GTO and have owned an SL55... no question which one I'd rather have-- performance numbers be damned.

I don't buy this story. GTOs are slugs. Even if he was pushing out those numbers, the 55K probably had a bad IC Pump or bad launch...

I ran the owner (anyone who knows the fellow can verify this) of European Touch in Huntington Beach in his bright green Lamborghini Murcielago ('03-'04) vs. my SL55 and kept him in my rear view well into triple digits, I highly doubt a GTO with less power then the Murcielago is going to stomp on a 55K.

Like Jim said, I think it was probably a SLK55... an SL is not "little".

Now tell him...he is full of a big pile of steaming poopy... there is no way an SL65 would be beaten 45-120mph by a car that is not capable of trapping higher than 119mph in the 1/4 mile ...let alone beating it by the 7-8 car lengths.

+1.

Not even remotely possible that a GTO with his mods would pull car lengths on a 65.
