Eye opener for Lotus Exige
I was coming to the Ben Franklin Bridge crawling in traffic when I notice this lotus creeping along in the lane next to me. Awesome looking car if you like small cars. He noticed my car only because of my magna flow. The guy inside seemed to be the yuppy type with his collar up etc. so the traffic opens up and all of a sudden he takes off in and out of traffic like a stupid kid. As always, traffic changes and I end up directly behind him. He notices and punches it with clear road ahead. I decided What the Hell. I stuck to him like glue. The guy could not believe a four door sedan was on his *** of his sporty little MR2 I mean Lotus Exige. Anyway, not sure if this car is faster/slower than the E55 but I definitely dented the ego of another "exotic" sports car owner.

Yes you would do fine until the first set of turns.
Then the little light weight Exige will drive away.

i think the non supercharged one is only 200hp, granted it only weighs 1600-1800lbs but no way it can keep up with a e55 in the straights.
on the twisties like machc5 said, its a completely different story. Most of the lotus guys swap out the junky 2zz and put in a k20 and turbo that. Those can hit 300-500whp easily.

I believe the Exige S is rated at 220hp? I pulled on one with my SRT-8 (from a roll thankfully) so a modded E55 would destroy it in a straight line. btw, don't race in tandem...

I've sampled the Lotus Elise (the non-supercharged one). It was pretty quick for a 190 hp car. Revved to about 8k and would do 0-60 in under 5 sec. My pullied C32 would beat it in a straight line (not by much) but no way in hell I could stay with it on a track. Suspension was rock hard. It was a very sharp little track weapon. I can only imagine what the Exige will do since it is the same car with more power. I thought it had 240hp, is that not right? Still, I think even a stock E55 would pass one in a stright line pull.

The Lotus was designed for the track, on a straight road I have blown quite
a few away, but on a twisty road he would eat you for breakfast.

I was at a meet in el cajon, ca. back in february. and there was a lotus elise, yellow, real nice.
but no way will that thing hang in a drag race, but God forbid you try to beat it on a track. when i was 18 i had a 2006 corolla XRS which is the same motor as the elise, gt-s celica and a few others. 6 speed many, 8k revs, its a blast to drive, but its slow as crap compared to anything with a v8 or so. mine had 184 to the crank in the XRS im sure lotus tuned it a bit but not by much. i know the elise has less than 190 to crank. but that thing is stripped, look inside one and its just a floor, 2 seats, shifter, wheel and radio. lol

Philly to NJ not so much, you've got that big curve to get on the bridge.

There is a set of switch backs near my house that I like to take the c55 on and the Lotus handled like it was on rails through the switch backs.
After taking my c55 to a track event, I think an elise would be much more fun and cost effective. Like everyone else said, its a toyota motor and tranny so parts would be cheap. Furthermore, smaller wheels = cheaper tires, cheaper rotors, etc, etc.
Plus you can get one used with ~30k miles for mid ~25k or so. Great deal if you don't mind how bare bones and uncomfortable it is.

I've driven one too and it's a lot of fun in the twistys. Did the Club Sportiva driving experience and it was definitely the go-kart of the group. Did a write-up on that too.

The newer Exige is rated at 240 (S240) and the newest is 260 (S260) and I'm sure a W211 AMG will beat them both from a roll...The S260 is probably pretty close...
Nice YUPPY kill

if the guy did a k20 swap, the numbers are believable. The k20 can go up to 1000whp.

here's one with a dyno.

Nope.........no k20 swap here. According to the magazine, the owner went with VF Engineering MP62 Supercharger. He then got use to the power and added a 6262 ball bearing turbo with the Supercharger.
