Odd but... CLK430 vs C43... surprising results..

I was pulling away from the C43 from 80mph up after downshifting. We were going 120+ on the 605 on sporratic traffic.

One time, I let him go in front of me and let him jerk first. But I was just pulling closer and closer to his rear end.

I was REAL surprised by the results.

Interesting......I've never run against a CLK 430, but they are quite similar in performance. I would think that the 43 would pull away if you kept going, but not really too smart (safety-wise). What is the curb weight of your car?

If I remember correctly, it's about 3322. Isn't the C43 something like 3380?

I expected the C43 to pull away also but no, I could see his car getting smaller slowly from my rear view.

those are some pretty high numbers compared to what I've seen and read. I've read that 43's run slightly under 6.0. and 1/4's closer 14.4. I know that one shouldnt believe what people say or print, but I think the numbers you posted are kinda high - even if you got those from MB's site.

Only way to tell is at the track.

Still wouldnt mind running against a 430, I know they are similar in numbers.

Quarter mile times vary a lot, depending on tires used and also driver's skill. You can easily drop them to the low-mid 14's.

I'm located in Southern California. A straight line race is just that, a straight line race. I agree with your other statement that the track will show the true colors....... in which case, my 430 will lose cause the stock suspension isn't all that great in handling; too much body roll and too slow of a rebound.

Arnee:

Regardless of suspension issues, I still think that the CLK 430 is pretty fast. I was looking up some numbers and they are pretty much even. I still think that both cars run to 60 in about 6.0, and that their 1/4's are in the 14's. I'll try and find a local 430 to run with me at the strip, now I'm really curious to how my 43 will hold up!

theine:

How do you like the underdrive pulleys? I'm considering picking up a set too and would like your opinion.

Regards,

DLS

My car improved 4/10's of a second 0-60 to 5.7, I am waiting for evosport headers, which should give me another 15 HP and lower my 0-60 to the mid 5's.

5.7 and mid 5's, that's CLK55 territory (as far as acceleration is concerned) without the $15k price tag. Good stuff.

Get Ben at evosport a call and get your ud pulleys, then let me know your results. The headers should be out in a month.
