Yup ... Sorry to say I'll probably be buying one in 2005. (won't buy a 1st year run of any car again after my experience with my '98 C43. All's good, great even, with it now after warranty repair -- just don't want to chance it.) I am hoping to win one. I'm in a raffle with 3 $100 tickets / 2000 tickets will be sold.
Either that or an S4 wagon (if they ever install the DVD navigation with screen in it. After having Steve MBenzNL install nav and update my phone from analog to a digital one in my 98 C43, I'm not about to buy a new car w/o it.)
Why? Both have 6-speed manual trannis! (you hear that MB/AMG? ) Something the C43 needs. no doubts!
Thing about now though is, the Caddi dealers are very arrogant about the car, demanding over list ... $3K in my case when I went to the showroom the other week. I'm no fool, or in a hurry. Especially after the deal I had on my car.
Other concern about Caddi ... About 10 years ago, we inherited my wife's grandfather's Seville. He'd buy a new Caddi every year (yes, =every= year), ever since he'd won one in a raffle in the 50's. Well, we get this Caddi. It's about 5 years old, with only like either 5K or 15K miles on it ... I forget, but it was stupidly low. But even then, there were many interior trim pieces that were either coming off, or already completely off. I remember one day, the blinker shaft just completely disconnected at the base in the steering column and came off in my hand. Bunch of other little things. Basically, real sh*t quality!
Now, I do hear the CTS and modern day Caddi in general is a very very different story. Ranks tops in initial owner satisfaction... bla bla bla ... However are parts still not going to start falling off after 50K miles? My C43's still like it's cut out of a solid slab of granite at 56K miles. So, if anything, that may be the primary reason I don't choose a Caddi, and do an Audi S.
However, should the long term quality be there on the CTS-V too, you can't argue that power ... that handling ... that 3.7:1 rear differential ... killer brakes ... (ok, interior sux) ... AND A BLOODY SIX SPEED ... ARE YOU LISTENING MB/AMG?!
You know what MB/AMG? When I bought my C43 I said "I'll only buy an AMG car from now on". But after living with that frigg'n transmission and it's frigg'n god forsaken Mercedes adaptation programing ... I will most probably =never= buy an MB/AMG again. You Hearing This Yet?
P.S. For those feeling compelled to jump on the "auto tranni gives you the most out of the car" angle which is a pretty widely held belief in Mercedes owners ... I also own a 2001 SLK320 and 1997 Jeep Sport ... both manual transmissions [6-speed and 5-speed respectively]. I have no problem shifting either at exactly redline, getting the most out of both, and know I wouldn't have any problem getting the same and better performance out of my C43, or any car for that matter, with a manual. Plus that exact control and response to the movement of my right foot can't be argued. You know, they don't call an auto a "slush box" for no reason, especially given Mercedes' "Adaptation" programming of the trannis ... totally "subdues" the power and takes the fun out of driving the car... unless I row the shifter, which I have to do as a rule.

I think that I would rather walk than drive a CTS....walk backwards with hole in my shoe and a limp!

Still Crap
It's still a cateract err cadilac guaranteed to have parts falling off in less than three years. I worked as a mechanic for years and the American cars manufactures build in obsolescence so the parts fail and you have to go to the dealer all the time. I used to see cars like this all have the same parts failure within months of each other. I stopped buying American crap cars in 1989 I only buy Jap or German now. Got A Toyota pickup 1986 221,000 starts like sewing machine and out runs most other Jap cars even for it's age.
