Checking oil level via instrument cluster

I have a U.S. '99 ML430. When I check the oil level via the instrument cluster, the results display in metric litres instead of the U.S. measure of quarts. What gives and can I fix this? Thanks.

I believe its in the owners manual. I prefer to do it the old fashioned way with the dip stick though.

none of the ML's I know have the MFD (multi-function display), so you can't check the oil VIA the instrument cluster...only way is the old fashion way of lookin' under the hood and pull that dipstick out

GDawg C220, you are 100 percent wrong. This has been on the ML's since the beginning. With the engine off, turn the key to position 2, wait till the odometer display shows all dashes then hit the odometer set knob and the display will read the oil level

Yes you can.
Turn ignition on, wait until the display turns into --------------- & hit reset twice.

lets see......to answer the original question.

480ml = 1 pint

2 pints = 1 quart

4 quarts = gallon

1000ml = 1 liter

I knew all that conversion crap in drug school would pay off!!!
