No Spare Tires in BlueTec ML's

Was told by my dealer (north Atlanta) today that the upcoming BlueTec ML's and GL's will NOT have spare tires due to AdBlue tanks being installed in their stead. Was told Run Flats were the flavour of the week.

Anyone know the facts?

Wow--that's bad, if true. Run flats and no spare was the biggest reason I chose the MB over the BMW.

What happens when you get a flat deep in the boonies...I think you're stuck for days and out a wad o $$--doubt the Tele-aide dude is bringing a complete spare set for ya!

Same here. I have driven BMW's for 35 years, and had 2 X5's . When the new E70 X5 came out, I thought it was too big, and hated the run-flats. Two of many reasons that I picked the ML over the X5.

I have a 2004 Mini Cooper S it has run flats to. I went on the high way with not knowing that i had a flat until the tire started ripping. I was un butt **** michigan no one within 45 miles had a tire that would fit 205/45/17. I called a tow company up explained my situtiation to them they told me that the have a used 17'' universal donut they will sell, they get to my spot they want 95 for coming out and instaling it. the lug pattern fit but the caliper stuck out to much and it wouldent fit. so they put on a used 215/45/17. when i got back to chi and i had to order the tire online because no one carries it.

this pissed me off so much i mean what is bmw thinking sure the mini cooper s is a sports car and i see how trying to save weight by not having a spare helps but dam to they think the run flats will take me to italy so i can find a pirelli dealer

ok end of rant lol

Having been there, I'll tell you my experience with Roadside Assistance & Run Flats: Roadside Assistance shows up...They don't have a spare tire with them...they call for a tow truck...car gets flatbedded to a dealer who also does not have the tire in stock....car is at dealer's overnight, waiting for a replacement tire.

RunFlats suck, and until replacements are widely available, there is no way that I would even consider having them, not to mention harsh ride, low treadwear, high cost, hydroplaning.

And, depending on which boonie you happen to be in, they could very easily tell you that they don't have service in that area.

Run flat tires and no spare are a definite deal breaker for me.
