ML350 2006 Bluetooth

I have a 2006 ML350 with an iPod doc but I have no module or adapter connector in the arm rest but when I open the second arm rest there are a bunch of wires secured at the back. Would this still indicate that my car is pre wired for phone kit. Also at the base of my inside rear view mirror there are four speaker like things. How would I go about getting a Bluetooth set up where I am able to use the steering controls and keypads on the command console and what would it cost me?

Just came back from the dealer, they said the car is already pre wired for phone but it needs what's called a "dangle" and the kit, which would run me $2800. I think that's crazy because the care is already pre wired.

All u need is a small connector port that sits in the armrest and a BT puck. The puck can be had for about $550 new, but used is much less. The connector should be dirt cheap.

Your dealer is screwing you over.

Thanks for your suggestion, where would the BT puck and the connector port be connected as I said under armrest 1 there is nothing at all. Would I have to disassemble the armrest? Another electronic shop wants to charge me $1400 for using an iTronic, which method do you think is better and is the price fair ?

In the armrest... Obviously you don't have it for a puck... So the iTronic is a good choice... BUT, as we are the iTronic manufacturer, 1400 is CRAZY! (whoever this installer is needs to be reported to us). See our site directly for the real prices.

Your dealer is screwing you over.
To do a complete OEM connection you need more than that. The dealer is quoting you for the BT base and completer kit plus the bluetooth adapter. These OEM parts cost over $1500 at the dealer. In addition you may or may not need a microphone installed in the mirror. Not all mics are the same. Some of the ones installed for the emergency SOS service are not compatible with the OEM BT. Some are. You will know that based on how the bottom of the mirror looks. Do a search in the R and ML class forums for 2006 and 2007 models for details. There is a chance that your car is pre wired and includes some of the wiring. Just ask your dealer to run your VIN number. If it isn't prewired, installing a connector to the wires on the armrest will do nothing. The wires are there but connected to nothing in the back of the radio even if the reach that far.
In short, it may be simple, or it may be difficult. From my research trying to figure out my 06 R500 I learned more that I wanted to know and I passed on spending thousands for wiring and a stupid adapter and went with a $75 Motorola BT speaker mounted with a clip on the visor. It is FM capable and streams music to my radio with very good quality. I had this setup for two years and recently traded for a GL with BT built in.

To the OP: Your dealer IS NOT screwing you. He is quoting you what MB dictates.

Hope my info helps

+1 aggst1 - The iTronic is a MUCH cheaper solution than OEM parts (and frankly the sound quality is WAY better - do a search and you will see reviews of the product).

Right, but I'm going off the whole idea that his car IS prewired for Bluetooth.

Pre-wire is dealer BS speak. ALL Mercedes have WIRE in them... WIRE, that is all. 50 cents

SOOOO - you need all the electronics (as mentioned earlier) that plugs into said wire, OR, get the iTronic BT - which replicates all the OEM electronics, but simpler install and better quality (according to our customers)

^^I was looking at the Viseeo unit, does it allow you to scroll through your phonebook through the NAV unit using Alphabetical order and search like the OEM unit?

If your car has the UHI (this thread is all over the place), and you can use a puck, yes the Viseeo does EVERYTHING the MB branded does plus a LOT more:

Pick categories of numbers
Siri activation (as of yesterday!)
4 phones
1000 numbers per phone
user updatable
