ABS Malfunction one time then gone! poof.... 07ML500

Stopped at a gas station the other day in our 07ml500 (62K Miles- orig owner) and got a visit shop warning stating ABS non-op, no cruise control etc.....
So pulled over. Shut car off..... restarted and no warning, no cel, nothing.
Been fine for a week now.

Is this a fore-shadow to a big repair, or just the joy of MB ownership, and nothing to worry about?

Could be, we had the same symptom and it became a full time problem needing the ABS module (ESP module) to be replaced @$1100. Funny though I also had a abs module go on the blink in our C5 Corvette, that we had repaired (needing only a n internal relay replaced) for $150. Instead of the $1500 GM wanted.
I did get my old MB module and its very similar and does the same function as the GM unit. So you may want to google "ABSFIXER.COM" could save you big bucks. That's what I would have done if I had known that the ESP & ABS modules were the same. Also on the Corvette it was an easy DIY, and the acces to the MB unit is just as easy to assess. (module is attached to the ABS UNIT left side/forward engine compartment).

Thanks moto.
Computer control allows these cars to do amazing things.... but there is a price for all that wizardry.

I"ll keep an eye on it.... @ 62K miles I'm hoping for 30K more trouble free miles (am I dreaming? )..... I really don't like the new ML elec steering all that much.... so I'm happy to run this one for a few more years (if it will hang in there)

thx,.

Hopefully all will be well now, but I did get a similar message at 40,000km. It went away on restart but kept returning. Booked it in and the dealer replaced the steering column, saying the steering angle sensor had failed. All done under warranty so no complaints from me.

Excellent idea - before the warranty expires.

ABS In-op code again today 2 times.... and now gone.

Hooked up STAR/DAS and got:
P20CC-008 - "rough road detection signal (by comparing wheels speeds): Speed signal from control module ESP implausable / Read out fault memory of control unit ESP. (P1999)"

Digging deeper - Possible causes of fault - "N47.5 (ESP control unit) -
advised jack up each wheel and spin the wheel with star on to see if speed sensor operates....

Car is under warranty - so I did not jack up and spin my wheels. we'll let MB-USA do this.

What do you think? wheels speed sensor? Or ESP control module flunking out?

The good news we bought the MB ext warranty back in 2007 upon initial purchase.... so we are covered for another year......

Thx. MBwld

Just got ML500 back from dealer. Warranty is soo nice.
Right Rear wheel speed sensor was bad, AND they said if your alignment is out it will trigger yaw sensor and same CEL..... so I had an alignment.

$189 later I'm out the door with NO CEL.... and if you have not had an alignment on your ML in several years/tire changes (Like me)..... get one.... this drives like a completely diff car!

It tracks better, rides better, steers better, brakes better.... it actually rides softer or cushier if that makes any sense at all......

Happy camper.
