Seats and fuel gauge post battery change
Hi new to this forum so many thanks in advance
keen diy mechanic and maintain all my cars with reasonable success
poor starting and failing main battery prompted a change of battery
no apparent issue- resolved slow start
now the seats don’t work and fuel gauge reads full
managed to jumper the seat so driveable- everything else working, fuses are fine I think
my question is have I damaged some wiring or rear Sam module
My thoughts are Sam damaged- is it fixable with star or new module needed
if so how much and presume Sam needs coding
any pointers or comments much appreciated- apart from you plonker
thanks

Did these problems occur after you changed the battery?
Both front seats?
Why do you believe you damaged the rear SAM?

Hi
thanks for responding
Sam module possible as ties in with fuel gauge and both seats not working- anyone know if there is an internal Sam fuse that would link both probs
delighted if I’m wrong and just a damaged wire to repair
this problem started after battery change- without taking seat out so a bit of pushing and pulling to get it
also held some wiring for seat out of the way- checked seat plugs and all ok
thanks for responding

Thanks for the response
all the fuses check out fine
V frustrating
Hopefully a friend who is an mb mechanic will borrow a star and help diagnose
do you think it’s worth removing seat to inspect wiring?
thanks

Could you please add Austrailia in your profile. You skipped that when updating your profile.

Hi maj
i presume by front Sam you mean the one next to the battery not the engine compartment ?
i am inclined to get the star scam done before I create more confusion messing with stufff- but might remove seat and battery to check out that area
thanks

Reread my previous post and update.
Depending on the position of the seat, it might be very difficult to remove the Torx bolts.

Friend came round and tested car on xentry
whilst I don’t really understand it pointed to f4kk fault no poeer
we switched the rear k relay with one beneath it and no joy
too cold for further testing in half cover this evening
he is off to scratch head and look at the wiring diagramme
would a spiked rear Sam do it?
thanks

Just to follow up on this
removed rear Sam
found an inch of water beneath it and on the other side
sam picture below
cleaned it up and now problems compounded
new rear Sam will hopefully sort it
looks like I will be sealing the tail lamps and leak checking
Looks like battery change might have just exposed this problem

Clean the board with Electronic Contact Cleaner and a toothbrush Also remove the black plastic pin towers and clean the corrosion.

Hi maj
thanks for responding
i did clean it up with a toothbrush and some spray contact cleaner
i think removing the corrosion killed some more of the connections
its a goner
new sam on Monday and getting coded tuesday
do you think some of the car functions will work pre coding?
thanks

Now sorted
after coding in rear Sam all appears well again
it turns out the issue was a failed seal around the third brake lamp
on closer inspection water could be seen trickling down the trim when the boot was open
trim off and clearly the foam seal had fallen apart
new brake lamp should sort it
thanks for the advice

This is a known issue where Mercedes failed to install the seal properly at the factory. The seal goes on the body cavity, not the lamp. If you put them on the lamp as before you will likely have the exact same problem before long.
