Dr Evil design the W164 side marker light replacement process
Got the Right Side Marker Light failure message on our 2007 ML 350.
So I rousted up all of my tools including the bent nose plastic pliers for tight spaces.
Still can't get it out...hard to locate w all of that frame metal and plastic covers
Tomorrow I will put my bright trouble lamp, lay down on the engine facing forward and see if I can get it out...
Im sure MB paid Dr Evil 1 million dollars to design the location of the side marker lights!

Hi Maj Dundee...its the marker light on the fender #5
The fender light cluster has 5 bulbs in it...of which #5 is the side marker light. It appears under the twist off access for #1 main headlight
After I go get some Christmas garland for my wife, I have this idea of standing on the right side of the vehicle facing forward. Using my left hand reach in w my angle pliers and twist #5 counter clockwise to get it out.
look to replace #5

If you can't get it out by contortion, then you have to remove the bumper. If you remove the bumper then it would be wise to change all small bulbs on both side.

Seriously, younger women have smaller hands and arms. Put them to work.

Just get some flat nose pliers and first disconnect connector take off wire then with the flat pliers latch onto the edge , turn counter clockwise 90 degrees and pull simple simon , not really

Maj Dundee...ha! That might work...easier than my big hands.
lululu...I do pliers to reach in there as I changed the left one a number of years back. The hard part w the right one is that there is less room. :

Thanks I have the same challenge to remove #3 above. May have to do the whole bumper route and replace all at the same time.
** update **
Needle nose worked for bulb #3, with minimum contortion. Its a 168 bulb, shows as amber.
