Found a great site to find Parts Numbers and diagrams for all Mercs. It is Russian (yeah, I know maybe they aren't the flavour of the month right now, but neither were the Germans for a long time), and you'll have to hit translate to English in Google Chrome, but the translations are very good, if not perfect. It also lists upgraded part numbers where parts have been replaced/upgraded. Easy to understand diagrams that appear to be factory ones so you can see multiple parts Its at https://merc.com.ua/mercedes-benz/model/m-class-w164

.ua is the Ukrainian internet domain suffix. Russian is .ru. Just putting it out there.

I stumbled upon this post and I must say that I'm interested in some of the accessories you're offering.

The GTS Black Tuner sounds like a really cool addition to a Mercedes Metris, and the roof bars and door handle paint protectors are practical items that could come in handy. By the way, have you considered looking into used trucks?

I use this site as it allows you to put in your VIN and picks up your car specific datacard and gives the part numbers based on that:

did try putting in my VIN but returned an error. I am guessing Australian VINs are not included in their database. So now you have introduced to myself a third parts website. The more the better.

still no luck. To be specific, my question is if my rear SAM part# is still valid ir has been superceded? A1645400501

Even though the the number printed on a part looks like a valid MBZ part number, that is not always the actual "part number". Sometimes it's identifier for just one component in an assembly or the supplier's part number. In this case, the valid part number for your car are A1645409862, A1645401901, A1644403201. Also, if you install a used SAM from a vehicle with different options, you will need to have it coded to match your car using SDS in developer mode (which a dealer CANNOT do).
With their statement, that means A1649005101 is my rear SAM but not a guarantee it will work if it doesn’t have the right SW coded onto it.

Part number A1649005101 is listed as the most recent rear Sam for the 164.122. PM or reply with your VIN and I'll do a search and see if it's for your vehicle.

Have you bought this unit, or are you looking to buy? If you have it I can help with coding. SW is specific to the SAM, coding is just changing options in the SW to suit what is installed in your vehicle.

This SAM is already for my VIN since I inputted my VIN this time around. I didn't buy a SAM yet but I do know my rear SAM is fried (posted a pic here before). Possibly, my front SAM as well. Since my wiper speeds are stuffed and left rear doorlock is inoperable.

I found an ECU repair mob from Brookvale NSW
Australian ECU repairs

They charge $440 for rebuilding the rear SAM. Rear SAM rebuild might be a better option than buying a wreckers unit or new unit. Thoughts on this??

Same same. The rear SAM is shared across a few models, so should be readily available. I think the R class has the same module.

A rebuilt one may be better and may have a better warranty (it would want to). If you can find one from a wrecker locally, that could be a good option. They will give you a short warranty, so quick check for corrosion and plugging it in will give and idea on whether it is working. It depends on how much a wrecker one is.
