So in the Canadian MY13 it says the AMG styling package is standard on both 350 and 550. Do you think that will be for the US too?

gplank - Thanks for sharing the ordering guide. Do you have any updates on the base price? I am interested in the 2WD assuming that might provide better gas mileage.

Nope, not even optional on the 350.

Greg,
The dealer ordering guide says August 2012 as the availability for the ML350 (4MATIC and 2WD). Do you think that is applicable to orders as well or is it just dealer stock vehicles?

Yep, they do that to keep Canadian buyers buying in Canada. But it really isn't the the AMG body from the ML63. The wheel wells don't have the flarings to accommodate the wider AMG 21 inch wheel, and look much less aggressive up front.

Yeah seeing the 63 and 550 side by side, it's not even close. The 63 is so much more aggressive looking. The 550 AMG styling is very subtle but still nice looking.

Nope. Pricing info is still elusive. At one point an SA told me that base pricing and pricing for many options wouldn't happen until June when production starts.

Yeah, I know it sounds strange. But it's because its cheaper buy south of the boarder. So they offer Canadian's something they can't get south of the boarder to keep Canadian MB dealers happy.

I think it's stupid. Why create such frustration? Why not give U.S. MB customers what they want if they are willing to pay for it? They are all made in the U.S., what's the difference between shipping the ML to a US destination vs and Canadian? Same thing for the interior...why can't I order an interior that is only available overseas, especially when MB uses it in the marketing materials (you know, that cross-hatch seat coverings?).

More and more, I'm feeling like I should go back to BMW or try Audi.

While I share your frustration, at least you can get that interior ("Designo") for 2013 in the US.

FYI there are a lot of things in a Canadian ML that justify a fair price difference. Including the AMG style package that MBUSA declined.
When guys have upgraded content on US bought MB it cost a fortune.

I can assure you that the decision to include AMG styling as standard on Canadian MLs had absolutely nothing to do with cross border imports.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I'm just parroting what my SA told me, which I should have mentioned for fair disclosure, since we know they're not always the most reliable source.

Despite what the US documentation Greg posted suggests, the info I've got indicates it's driver's side only for the multicontour. Daimler hasn't been developing a passenger-side active multicontour on new models (212 E-Class, etc) due to the different weight sensing system in the passenger seat of Euro vs NA vehicles. The low take rate doesn't justify the development costs.

I could be wrong, but just sayin!
Sorry, but glad you are indeed wrong. Here's what it says in the MY13 ML Dealer Ordering Guides (also attached):

399 Multi-contour driver/passenger seat with massage and comfort headrests NEW! $1,100

It happens from time to time, and I was clear about my uncertainty in this instance.

YYZ E55's post is a bit old and he can now see in the Canadian Order Guide that indeed both seats are multi contour however it does not say Dynamic but I think that is MB std now as well as 12 or more massage points.

Well, after seeing the dealer ordering guide, I've finally decided to cancel my 2012 order and create a new one for 2013. Will be going to the dealer this Saturday. I'll let you know if I get any updates on pricing / expected build dates.

Good move....I think the multi-countour seats are alone with any extra wait for an MY13.

While you're there, could you please ask your SA to print out the latest version of their online ordering guide and list of standard features (like attached here)? Perhaps there might be updated pricing info and new options.

Massage Seats

I see there is an option to have Massage Seats in MY2013. Do the seats just inflate and deflate at different places to produce the massage effect or are there rollers installed in them...sort of a shiatsu massage?
I know the 2013 isn't out yet, but if someone has a different MB with massage seats, please let me know how they work and if you think they are a good option.

The air bladders in the seatback (lumbar) are independently inflated/deflated to create a massage sensation.
