MB Paint Colors

Just curious as to why MB charges extra $700 for other colors besides black, white & red. Does the extra metallic flakes costs that much more?
We have owned other metallic colored cars from Lincolns, Corvettes, & BMWs (back when they didn't charge extra).
This is our 2nd MB & thinks it's odd that whether it's a $40K or $100K + Mercedes, they still tack on the extra charge.
We have owned other less expensive cars which have all the metallic colors without extra charge.

I know, I know, there are lots of you out there who's going to poo-poo this as "if you're spending $xxxK on a MB, so what's another $700....?"
That's how we're $16 Trillion in debt by now....

Manufacturers will charge what they feel they can get away with. While the paint and process for metallic is probably not much more than for non-metallic, it's a perceived "premium" product. Audi does not charge extra, but BMW and many others do.

Right....BMW charges for metallic paints on some of its models. It does not charge for the X5 though.

You're right.
We're buying a "Premium" luxury car, add "Premium" options such as:
"Premium" 1 Package
"Premium" Paint
+ other "Premium" options
= "Premium" profits for MB

Ain't Capitalism great?

Yes, actually, it is. Not everyone values those optional items as desirable, and thus don't have to pay for them. For those that do, they can add them. Personally, I don't see a problem with that. I opted for a lot, and am willing to pay for it. When you compare what I am paying to what it would cost in a BMW or Porsche, I think it is quite fair. Just saying'...

Yea, the Audi is still a VW though, don't they even share some of the same paint colors? Maybe by a different name, yet the same color?

How many carats do they put into the Diamond White paint?

Did they priced it $1500 as someone's 2 months' salary?

Actually, the ML350 only charges extra for Diamond White, all other colours are no extra charge (apart from Designo).

Got if for $890 because it says that on their website so my dealer let me have it for that price. If you go on MB Canada's website it still says $890 for Diamond White. Get it while you can.

Unfortunately they sock it to their US customers. Example from MBUSA online build of ML350:

exterior: Iridium Silver Metallic$720

Wish more than black or arctic white were no charge

Nick does not have his location listed, but all metallics are an extra $720 in the US, and Diamond White a mere $1,515.

Grass is greener syndrome! You get Sport Package and other options, we get lower base. I'd love the AMG body kit on my 350 and would gladly pay $$ for it, but MBUSA doesn't allow that for some reason, though most of the rest of the world can. Frustrating! Right way would be for everyone to get the same option availability.

I'm in Houston TX.
In US prices, base black, white, & red are no charge.
But Diamond white is $1515 extra.
& All other colors are $720 extra.

No extra charges for colors in Canada?

Think we're all so lucky to only pay $700 - $1500 for metallic paint.

In Zimbabwe, it's $150 Trillions + an arm & leg...
