Mats...
MB was to announce no-charge replacements - which most assumed at the time would be same style with some redesign to beat the contested "safety issue".
The "safety issue" has turned out there was a accident report based on a owner claiming the mats interfered/jack-up the accelerator - which was later found to be the case that owner did not pull the carpeted mats from underneath - so the un-snapped all weather drivers mat reportedly slid forward and contributed to the cause of the accident.
The replacement mats are not the original all-weather type - they are the Weather Tech "Design Fit" type which are trays of somewhat thinner material that can be "safely" placed either on-top of the original carpeted mats, or the carpeted mats can be pulled and the trays put on-top of the floor carpet.
The trays have the MB logo plate, in place of the WeatherTech logo plate.
Initial shipments of the replacement mats were received by dealers about 10-14 days ago - with specific instructions from MB to parts/service department that customers who had mats "pulled" should get all their replacements 1st, before the dealer could offer the new DS style mat for sale.
Note, the WeatherTech all-weather-style mat is available - however, MB cannot help you secure that - all MB can do is replace and sell the DS style trays.
Keep the beat !
Reason for the hate of Weathertech style? They are slippery so when driving in dress shoes I found I had to keep my feet fully extended and couldn't have my heel halfway up the mat or it would just slip down. Might sound strange but it bugged me and I sold those Weathertech mats after one winter.
