Brake calipers rusted on 2012 CPO
I recently bought a 2012 CPO ML350 4Matic. I was particular about the features and color and got from a different state but I had to buy it online. The dealer is a reputed guy from Boston but the SUV has got rusted calipers which looks ugly when you look hard at the wheels. I am trying to see if I could get this sorted. If you have paid $40k for a CPO which is still under factory warranty (mileage is 40400 and about a year left) I believe it should have been replaced. I did call them today but they say its normal which I find it hard to believe. Can anyone please suggest what I need to do next?

You sure it is the calipers and not the rotor hub that is rusted?
They will not replace that easily unless something is terribly wrong with them. Rusting is common and if the wheels are not cleaned regularly the brake dust eats through the finish. You can always try using brake cleaner and a brush to see if the rust goes away.

I painted mine. You don't need to disconnect the brake hose, just make sure you support the caliper so you do not put to much stress on the hose. I used tape and plastic to cover everything to eliminate the possibility of getting over spray on anything else

The pictures on the brake calipers look so good. I am trying to get mine to that shape if possible. One of the MB dealers here suggested he could take them out, scrape the dust off and paint them, a couple of days job. I am thinking if I get them done it would look the same. But honestly if its under warranty can't they replace and recycle the existing ones so we are all winners? That is what is expected when you shell out the money on luxury....right?

Unfortunately, I don't think that corrosion on the brake calipers is covered under warranty. If the brake calipers were defective then they would replace them but not for your issue
It is easy to do if you have tools and basic mechanical skills. Only odd tool you will need is an 11mm hex bit similar to this:
Here is a post with a video that shows how to replace the front brake pads a rotors. (Haven't watched the entire video for correct procedures but I am sure it will give you some idea on what is involved ) How To Replace Front Brakes - Post
Good luck

JRHolt those are aftermarket rotors correct? Where did you get them and how much is it compared to to stock drilled rotors of the ML? Any performance difference between the OE and aftermarket rotors? Also how come there is no cover on the caliper at the front?

I have used their rotors in the past when I used to drive Corvettes and they seem to hold up well for cheap rotors. This set that I got were not machined and zinc plated as well as they used to be in the past so I don't think I would go with them again. Stoptech finally makes premium drilled rotors for the ML so I would probably buy them and have them zinc plated locally.
